It should last 200 000 miles under normal driving conditions and it's serviced when it should be. You have to remove that whole front console section of the dashboard to start by prying it up with a flat head screwdriver and gently pulling it loose from the pink retaining clips. Then unscrew the four screws with a Phillips to remove the stereo. Then you can unscrew the panel with the three temperature control knobs.
