1990 Daihatsu Rocky - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Daihatsu Rocky will not start.
Take the fuel line off the tank side of primer and connect a plastic jar full of diesel there and see if it starts. If not disconnect fuel line from primer side of fuel pump and see if fuel gets through to injectors. If not problem is in pump. If you have fuel and still wont start it will likely be glow plugs. You can short them out with a wire from positive battery terminal to plate joining all glow plugs. (make sure you disconnect it after 30 seconds or so or they will burn out) The engine will probably not start at all if the glow plugs dont work. (all this advice is from experience)
Good luck

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
Yes the CPU or ECU (engine control unit) can be damaged that's why it's doing this. You will need to replace it for the circuit is surely damaged. I believe you'll be good after the replacement.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

The first thing you must do is to fully charge the battery and have it tested, any Autozone will do this for free, also make sure the battery cables are clean and free of corrosion.Once the battery is charged and tested then you will need to test the charging system to see if the Alternator has proper voltage and amperage output, to test the charging system run the engine at about 1500 RPM turn on all the lights, head lights on high beam and the AC blower motor on high, the voltage at the battery posts should not be below 13.8 Volts-about 14.5 Volts, any lower and you will need to have the Alternator tested by a professional to determine if the problem is the Alternator or the wiring to it.

This means the the vehicle's onboard computer system
has self-diagnosed some kind of problem. The "Check Engine"
light is there
to signal you when a problem occurs that may require attention.
This can include anything from a momentary hiccup that has has
little or no noticeable affect on engine performance or driving
safety to a failure of a major electronic component. There's
no way to know what the light means without running a diagnostic
scan on the system to determine the nature of the fault.
My suggestions is, get hold of a scan tool and scan your vehicle. Provide me the code that you are going to get and i will help you solve the problem.

There is a small cone shaped fuel filter located just before the fuel pump. It is inside the rubber hose that attaches to the pump. This is an often overlooked/unknown filter as there is another large one located on the firewall. Most folks change that one without cleaning the cone shaped one. Good luck!

This definetly sounds like an alternator problem........but to definetly check this.....grab a multimeter, and check the voltage at the battery whilst the engine is running/idling, the voltage should be around 13.8v and 14.2v,,,,,,,let me know how it goes !!

computer doesnt control pump relay on such a old vehicle ,you have a fuse out or old dirty connections on the base of the relay so if all else fails then run a new feed wire to relay depending on which power point on relay has no power ,if its the feed from ignition to operate relay make a new feed from ignition switch and if no power to pump side of relay then run a new feed to this via a fuse .simple to sort out on such an old vehicle

You may have a bad throwout bearing which is not good as the transmission will need to be pulled to replace it, If replacing the throwout bearing it is usually a good idea to also replace the clutch plate at the same time. This can be caused by keeping pressure on the clutch pedal while driving causing the throwout bearing to be constantly engaged therefore wearing out the bearing.
Rockt Daihatsu not getting any fuel ,change fuel
IThis is ok changing parts but if you have another problem then changing all these parts were a waste of time ,first thing to do is to check for power to the petrol pump first before you go any further ,turn ignition on and then see if you have power to the cable connector on top of the pump housing .Then work backwards checking power to the pump relay then the power distribution box .
