I am replace the alternator

My name is SEAN and please include my name in any/all additional posts directed to me

thanks for the question, but my latest and greatest service manual does not show anything on the belt removal... might be time for a change!!!

while I do no have a discovery in the shop right now I can tell you there are two possible set-ups

I am assuming you have one belt
as such you find the tensionor and push/pull this away from the belt

if you could post a close-up picture of your belt and pulleys I would be able to give you better instructions

My radio displays a 4 didit code and wont allow me

Hi there,
I think its fairly standard across all Land Rovers. First of all you need a code. This was supplied on a credit card sized piece of card with the original vehicle. I'l assume its not to hand... Typically, you can source the code (which is specific to your serial number / radio) from a supplier such as this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Landrover-Radio-Code-Decode-Service-4775-Navigation-/380181370976?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item5884935860 Code in hand, you are ready to enter it and unlock the radio. You only actually need numbered button <1> and the two seek buttons that look like <| and >| .
-------------
When you turn the radio on, you should see it request <CODE>

Press preset button <1>. This should identify character 1 of the code.

Use one of the two tuning buttons (Seek up , or seek down - the ones with arrows going into lines) to move to the right number (0-9).

Press preset button <1> again to lock digit 1 and move onto code digit 2.

Repeat twiddling the upseek and downseek. Press button 1 etc .... until all four codes have been entered.

When you press <1> for the final time, if the code is correct, you'll get a two tone beep to confirm and the radio is unlocked.

If incorrect, you are progressively locked out (in doubling time periods).

Hope this helps.

Cant get the sump plug off

I am assuming you have the large wrench requires. It has been my experience that many garage mechanics will tighten these way to tight. Use more leverage, a pipe over the wrench handle will give you much more leverage. .

Remove the inside rear door panel for 1995 Landrover

Remove the 2 bolts holding the grab handle ( 10mm) Remove the screw holding the pull handle plastic cover and remove the cover. Use a fork and pry the panel away from the door and you will be able to pull it off. Before refitting, check all of the plastic clips that hold the panel to the door, some will have broken off. Remove them and fit them back on to the trim panel and glue them on. Refit is reverse as removal. Hope that helps

Need to fit a vacuum pump on my 1995 disco as

Disconnect the servo hose, remove 6 bolts, pop the pump off with harness bracket making a note of the bracket for refitting.
Clean mating faces of pump & block, loosely assemble pump to block with new gasket and with harness bracket located under head of bolt noted during removal. Evenly tighten the bolts to depress the pump plunder and tighten finally to 25Nm. Reconnect the vaccum hose and secure with clip.

Why wont my 1998 discovery td5 go past 4000 revs

If it's an automatic, then odds are the box will change before 4000rpm, though it does redline at 4800rpm. If you pop it in sport, you may push more out of the box before a change up.
