1995 Land Rover Range Rover - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
1995 range rover p38 4.6 litre petrol over heating ive fitted a new thermostat and the radiator is clear but the bottom hose doesnt get very hot and the lefthand side heater doesnt work can you diagno
Sounds blocked to me, with the limited info provided that is. Here's a couple often overlooked things to check if you havnt already: 1.The resorvoir cap located on top of the coolant tank behind battery. This is a critical item and must operate correctly. They do get worn and can malfunction and as with the thermo once overheated they need to be replaced. 2. The line from the top of the radiator that wraps the inside fender and up to the neck of the resorvoir. If you disconnect from resorvoir with engine running (but cool) you should have a steady flow of coolant. If its intermittent or weak this would indicate partial blockage. 3. The thermostat replacement, was it done by a qualified tech? This is the "artificial heart" looking junction down near the battery side of lower radiator. Because the engine block is a GM design it is cast to accomodate the thermo at the top of the engine as with a GM car. Rover does not use this and it is a clear passage from top hose to top end. It is not unheard of for an unfamliar tech to install a thermo here thinking the old was simply removed. Also the hoses may be connected to the wrong ports. Two of the three are the same size, check it out, your "heart" may be in backwards.
They seem like minor items but they are critical to the high pressure cooling system unique to Range Rover. Hope this helps you are on the right track. Whatever you do don't let it overheat to the red. It doesn't sound like a head gasket but the coolant isn't blending for one reason or another. Hope it helps, am happy to troubleshoot further if you post additional info.
95 range rover good battery starter working but will not turn over?
Ugh.... Goes without saying, you have a short somewhere, aka Rover Electrical Gremlin. Could be anywhere in the chain of ignition components. The one and only similar experience I've had led me to the starter. The way that it is positioned and the contact nuts being so close to the body that I believe the full power of the battery supply has enough current to jump this bridge of as little as. 4-5mm and cause an arc. (From the factory the starter comes with a protective rubber boot to prevent this.) Crawl under there (after disconnecting the battery) loosen the nuts on the posts of the starter and tighten them down after you position them in such a way that the cable and any metal on the connector or wire is as far from other metal of the body. If your preotective boot is gone then you need to insulate the positive contact somehow. Tape isn't going to do it, but liquid electrical tape will work or the rubber boot off of an old set of ignition wires could be modified with a bit of enginuity. Remeber to disconnect the negative lead off of the battery before doing ANY electric troubleshooting on a Rover. If by chance you were working on your starter and did not do this, you're in luck, a wrench to the live starter will blow a fuse everytime and this is where your problem would likely be. Good luck, hope this helps. Repost any additional info or questions and ill do my best to help
Installing a belt
First thing is to draw a map of where the existing belt goes.. Up under the bonnet with a permanent marker is a good place. Release the adjuster/tensioner pulley/s and take the old belt off. . Fit the new belt ensuring that it sits properly in the pulley grooves and re-tension the pulleys
Power steering resovoir
Located to the right of the radiator. Has a lid resembling a five spoke wheel and is black. Hope this is what you wanted to know. Good luck!
Overheats
Leaking head gasket ? Blocked exhaust ?Air pockets in the cooling system ?
Tapping noise at top of engine
Take the valve cover off and check the spacing on the rocker arms if they are too loose it will have a tapping noise make sure u check individual rockerarms when the valve is closed.
Engine will not crank over
If battery is new, and altenator test good which would mean your battery is getting charged, then check the igntion wire that goes to the solenoid. They can get loose, broken, or dirty connections.
Check your battery cable connections on battery and on starter and ground to make sure they are very clean as well as tight.
Oil pressure light on in my range rover
I would have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge. The gauge is inserted into the hole where the electric switch goes for the warning light. The switch could be faulty, or you could be loosing oil pressure once the engine warms up.
1999 range rover hse overheat
Could be a problem with the water pump, blockage in the cooling system, even a restriction in the exhaust.Do you know if the radiator fan comes on before it reaches 230 degrees ??
