the solenoid maintains oil pressure when ratios are selected or releases pressure when in neutral or park
so a faulty one will indicate as no drive when selected, possible slipping , possible slow ratio changes
take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop that works on your make of car, have it tested and get a proper diagnosis and quote
