you have a bad lighting control module. $499 new, $250 from tascafordparts.com or less from ebay or car-part.com.

It is under dash above brake pedal.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Lighting Control Module Removal and Installation

1. Open hood. Disconnect battery ground cable .

1. Disengage three pushpins and remove lower driver side instrument panel finish panel.

1. Locate lighting control module above accelerator pedal.

1. Disconnect bottom two electrical connectors from lighting control module.

1. Remove two screws retaining LCM to bracket and unclip from bracket.

1. Remove lighting control module from bracket and disconnect two remaining electrical connectors.

1. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Check lighting control module for proper operation.

I have a 1991 lincoln that does the same thing, i looked up an solution here and i hope it applies to your car too, i am replacing the lighting control module which is under the dash panel above the accelerator pedal, is a box with four connectors that is held by two screws. You can get one at a junkyard for less than 20$ bucks i got two just in case one didn't work! I hope this helps!

Before u do everything this idiot says , on your heat control dash press (off) and (floor) at the same time, within two seconds after that press the (automatic) button, your dash will begin to click and where it usually tells you the outside temp a fault code will begin flashing, let the dash click for about 60 seconds then turn the car off, when you turn the cat back on, blast the heat full blast on the highest temp and within minutes ull have heat again! Note, make sure ur engine temperature is warm before you do all that.

Remove the door panel & see why it cameloose & resolve

Open the hood, standing in front of the car, the compressor is located all the way on the right hand side(drivers) and all the way to the back(windshield) of the engine bay. it is all the way on top of everything by the wheel well very easy to get to.

Your belt diagram is under the hood right next to the the hood latch in the very front of the car... i didnt see mine at first either but it's there....

Can you get it out far enough to put a "C" shaped piece of plastic under it so it won't fall back into the hole? Or wrap some tape around it, or some string?

check for cracked vacuum lines in the system

check for a vacuum leak by the rear of the engine
