Engine cranks but will not turn over! give it a
On a '99 model car, sooner or later you are going to want to know what your fuel pressure reading is, both engine off and engine running. Expect it of course, on a 14 year old car, that is when electrical things start going south, everything from motors, connections, old wiring. I drive old cars, you just deal with it all the time. You know you have a fuel problem. If the car runs fine and dandy after you shoot fluid to start it, and if it has no problem with hot re-starts, that could be something not turning the pump on as it should, but once the engine has started, something like the oil pressure switch is used to keep the pump running. Hot restarts may happen before the pressure in the lines has bled down enough to cause no start. The car's fuel system and the fuel pump circuit are not that complicated, really. Once you understand it just a little, you realize why maintaining a specified fuel pressure is so critical in fuel injected engines. The pressure is meant to be applied to the fuel injectors inlet bath. You could pay $50 - 100 to have your fuel pressure checked. Or, you could pay about $40 for a fuel pressure gauge and kit, and learn how to check it yourself, both the pressure and a lot of other things as well. Did you know that the proper way is to check pressure first with key on, not starting the car? That means the pump has to turn on to pressurize the system just by turning the key to on-and it should for about 2 seconds.okay, enough, enough. good luck there, pat. save a lot of money and do it yourself, your car is a good candidate and it will love you back...lol
