Where is the ecm located
Your vehicles ECM is located behind the driver's Left Knee
Bolster. That would be on the left side of the dash and below the steering column.
It can be identified by the 3 electrical connectors attached to it: a 10 wire, an 18 wire, and a 24.
Occasionally it will chug like
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
On these models, it is usually white in color made of plastic. You may want to check on the driver's side firewall under the hood. If it's not there then your filter must be underneath near the fuel tank. There will be nowhere else but these locations.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
Hi, Ihave a problem with mt Hyudai excel. It
John, there are several reasons this can happen. Bad spark plugs and wires can cause this. A bad rotor cap can as well. If you havent changed them in a while, it couldn't hurt. Another sign of bad plugs is bad gas mileage, not getting as much miles as you use to. Your timing belt may be starting to go bad, this could cause a backfire. When your belt is slipping, it can get out of time. Eventually, your car won't start. Your distributor may be going bad. I advise you, if your check engine light is on, get it coded at Autozone. This will give you a starting point to your problem. Check all your fuses first. This is simple to do and cheap. A fuse can be bad, causing problems to appear bigger then they are. I hope this helps you.
Hi, my 92 excel starts
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
You may want to start on replacing the ignition coil. If the ignition coil overheats it tends not to work that's why cooling it down makes it work again. Once replaced you'll be good.

Where is the fuel pump
Inside the tank. R&R procedures below. Let me know if you have questions.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Reduce pressure in the fuel lines as follows:
- Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
- Loosen the fuel filler cap to release fuel tank pressure.
- Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector located under the rear seat cushion on Elantra or in the area of the fuel tank on the remaining models.
- Start the vehicle and allow it to run until it stalls from lack of fuel. Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable, then reconnect the fuel pump connector.
- Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
- Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle. Disconnect the hoses at the pump.
- Unbolt and remove the pump from the tank.
To install:
- Install the new pump with new gasket in place into the fuel tank and secure.
- Install the fuel tank into the vehicle.
- Connect the fuel lines and the electrical connectors to the fuel pump and sending unit.
8.Connect the negative battery cable, pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks.
Weres the fuel pump on
IF YOU HAVE CARBURETOR YOU HAVE A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP ON SIDE OF THE ENGINE.IF YOU HAVE FUEL INJECTION ENGINE FUEL PUMP INSIDE FUEL TANK.
Car cranking, not starting. Is getting fuel, and
well the 4 things that you need for an engine to run are fuel, spark, compression and air. so i would focus on compression and air. If you cant do this by yourself then i would take it somewhere somehow adn have it looked at

Clutch goes to the floor and wont go into gear
Your clutch is failing to disengage, this is a different problem to a worn out, slipping clutch.
If the clutch is cable operated then the cause will be a stretched or broken cable (replace) or the cable is out of adjustment (you may need to replace any automatic adjustment mechanism, but not all cars have them. If it won't adjust out then the cable is stretched and must be replaced). If you're unlucky, it's a badly worn or bent clutch fork and that will require a new fork and complete clutch replacement unless the existing clutch assembly is known to be almost new, but the release bearing will need to be replaced regardless is there's a fork problem.
If it's a hydraulic clutch then it's likely that the master or slave cylinders have a leak and if so must be replaced or overhauled.
If the car has been left standing unused for a while, then the clutch plate may be stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate by rust. This can normally be shocked free but it's a dangerous process if you're inexperienced; in the worst case this will involve having the clutch replaced but it doesn't usually go that far.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but '92 Hyundai Excels were never commonplace to begin with and eighteen years later are as rare as hen's teeth. The vehicle pre-dates the internet so it's unlikely that you'll find any free "how-to" guides online (I can't find any) and as it was never a big seller Haynes and others won't have produced a workshop manual for it.
I hope that my answer has been of some use, but none of the causes are really DIY fixes anyway unless you're a very experienced home mechanic so you'll either need a knowledgeable friend or professional clutch specialist to examine your car to diagnose the correct fix. As long as the clutch itself doesn't have to come out the repair should be relatively quick and cheap, and many clutch centres offer free clutch adjustments.
