1993 Saturn SL2 - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Should my 1998 Saturn sl2 cooling fan come on when
no it should not run in accessory position and the reason i suspect is a contact breakage inside the ignition switch which is on the end of then steering lock .so long as it stops when you take the key out leave well alone to the switch packs up completely as it could last for years and you might have bought a newer car before it goes completely
I have a 1993 saturn
you could use a sealing compound on the gasket.universal gaskets work sometimes....
Got a Saturn SL2 that has been sitting fo awhile.
Did you listen to see if the pump is actually pumping. You should here the pump on initial turn of the key.Have someone turn the key and listen for the pump to come on.If the fuse blew for the fuel pump its very possible that the pump is bad or a ground wire is loose. But it sounds like your pump is bad.
How do you check transmission
Make sure the engine has been at operating tempurature for at least 5 minutes. Open the hood and locate the TRANSMISSION dipstick, this one is different from the ENGINE OIL dipstick. It is usually bigger and located closer to the firewall in the engine compartment, if you have any doubts about finding it, look in your owners manual, it should tell you where it is. When you pull the correct dipstick you can tell becuase the fluid is RED and not BLACK or BROWN like engine oil. The car should be on a level surface and the engine should be idling in PARK to check the fluid correctly. Pull the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and then re-insert it and pull it out again. There should be clear markings on the end of the dipstick to show where the level is. Again, check in your owners manual to see where normal levels are marked. If you don't have an owners manual, just look to see if the level is at least between two marks; an uppper and a lower. If no fluid shows on the stick, you are running low on fluid and could damage the transmission, have it filled immediately.
Hope this helps.
My trunk locking mechanism is
Go to a local salvage yard to see if they have a car like your's in stock. Buy the parts you need, taking particular note of how the dis-assembly goes and reverse the procedure to re-install parts on your car.
You didn't say, but I assumed this bent part wasn't the result of a collision. If there is also body damage, you'll need to get it fixed before attempting any repair to the locking mechanism itself.
Spindle replacement
call round to junkyards, or get one on eBay or craigslist. lots of folks around who take cars apart and sell them piece by piece to supplement their disability checks. one should fit anywhere up to a 99SL or SW series. obviously the newer the better.
you are going to need some serious tools and mechanical knowledge to replace this, and it will need an alignment afterward. so i would suggest having a shop with an alignment rack do the work.
I need to know where the tensioner is located so i
there is a tensioner for the serpentine belt, it is spring loaded so it adjusts by itself. if the belt is loose then the spring in the tensioner has gone south. you need a new tensioner, about 50 bucks but replacing it is beyond normal owner servicing. there are many videos of folks replacing tensioners on youtube. note the tools they have, and most videos are shot from under a lift. if you have all those on hand, then you would not have asked the question. buy the part and take it to a repair shop.
No fifth or reverse
Just had this happen. Open hood and prop it up. Stand on drivers side shine light down toward transaxle between firewall and battery, nearer to fire wall.
There are two ribbed rubber protective covered arms that come out. One has a pin pointing up at you, and because hidden by hose can be harder to see. I only found it because I knocked this one off trying to fix the other one! This one is the forward backward movement.
Beneath that one and nearer the transaxle is another one, it points to back of car. THAT is the culprit for missing 5th and Reverse. I put a zip tie on it to tide me over until I can get the right retainer put on it.
Hope that helps!
Where is the fuel pump
all saturns have the fuel pump inside the gas tank, like just about every car made since 1990.
I recently had the water pump replaced which works
You could try replaceing the fuel pump relay at least test it chevy has a strange disign with there fuel pumps relays and some times its back upper by the oil pressure unit as a secondry power supply for the fuel pump
Where does the transmission fluid go
The transmission should have a dip stick. It may be hard to find but its there. With the car running check the fluid level. If it is low than you will need a skinny funnal and remove the dip stick and install your fluid there.
I have a 96 sl saturn. takes half an hour for my
replace the thermostant again this time get a hotter temp thermostant and buy it from the dealer, the other thing is that these cars are known for the temp sensors being bad this would give you the false reading on the gauge but would not affect the heat, if its taaking a long time then i would replace the stant and this time or before replacing the stant i want you to flush out the heater core, remove the hoses from the heatercore and use a water hose to flush water through the heater core, a plugged core will not throw heat or will start to allow water to flow when it gets good and hot to flow through the retricted core due to rust and crud, try the flush first and then try a new temp sensor if the flush helps the heat, hope this is helpful good luck.
How can the speed governor
i owned 5 saturns and i never heard of a speed governor on one. mine were all 4 cylinders and would top out at the end of the engine's oomph, not from any mechanical limitation.
