Rover Gearbox stuck

if this is an auto tranny, you may want to make sure this is on driv. possible causes of this is the transmission solenoid or the gear selector as it is stuck on reverse. best if you will have it checked by a professional as the location of the parts mentioned is hard to reach without specific tools.

regards,

voodoo

Rear air bag on my 1998 range rover is not attached

Since your vehicle is a 1998 your struts(possibly springs) are going bad just because of age and ware & tear over time. I'd reccomend taking this to a mechanic to have them check out your suspension, generally new struts and springs all around will cost 300-400 for parts, and a few hours labor. It can be easily done by yourself as long as you have a spring compressor. If you don't have a haynes manual already I highly suggest purchasing one for your car, most auto parts shops have them, and you can find them on ebay pretty cheap.
You can most likely replace the airbag yourself if you get a new rear airbag and install it yourself, but remember to disconnect all of the battery terminals so that the car does not for any reason deploy the airbag while your working on it(very unlikely) but its a good saftey percaution. Personally I would get the rear airbag professionall installed because I'd want to be 100% sure it would deploy in case of an accident.

Range rover have no heat or ac

First thing I would do is check your fuses. If all of your fuses are intact, I would make the assumption that it must be the control assembly itself (your actual dash control unit) since to my knowledge it is the only point where the two exclusive systems (heating and AC) are integrated with each other, aside from sharing the duct and to some extent, the electrical system. Being that neither the heating NOR cooling system will work, it seems the only common denominator.

If you have blown fuse(s), remember that fuses almost never blow for no reason (wierd things DO happen on occasion!), and this is usually just a symptom of a deeper issue, such as a short or fault in your electrical system such as your fans, or other components, drawing too much current. Locked fan rotors will blow fuses, for example. Having to replace the fuse again in short order would indeed indicate the need to troubleshoot further.

Good luck!

The battery has a bad draw and wont stay charged.

You'll want to check your cables, especially the negative as its the side of the battery that holds the charge. If you have access to a ohmmeter this is a pretty easy check.Disconnect the negative cable and place a lead on the battery end of the negative cable and the other to the engine block you should get a 0 ohm to maybe 1 or 2,any higher and the connections need to be checked for corrosion, this could be corrosion on the battery clamp or where the cable bolts to the motor if you measure I'd think 50 or more ohms the cable is bad and needs to be replaced, and it may be easier for you to replace both cables as they are fairly inexpensive.Hope this helps and have a good day!

The rev counter indicates 500 revs on tick over

If you have the correct 4 digit code, you should be able to input it right in. After 3 unsuccessful attempts i will lock out. Push the BND button and hold until radio says code in.

2 ways to get the correct code
1. Giving your VIN# to the land rover dealer in exchange for the radio.
2. If that code doesn't work, you will need to have the radio pulled and provide them with the serial # to the radio and provide that to the dealer.

1998 range rover 4.6 HSE

firstly check which part is leaking, pipes to the air spring, the air spring, or the valve blocks. replace the faulty part, and the compressor. because the compressor is damaged already wit the constant pumping of air for the airspring. to check leak in the system use soap n water using a bottle with a spray head.

Central locking not working

Remember the radio system in use requires both a transmitter (your keyfob) AND a unit inside the vehicle itself to receive the transmitted LOCK/UNLOCK signal from the keyfob. Like ALL radio signals, this is susceptible to noise and interference, so having trouble unlocking your car right next to a radio station tower might be perfectly reasonable!

If you have changed the battery already, my next step before bringing the vehicle in for professional repairs would be to purchase a new key. You most likely will need to bring the vehicle in anyway, to sync the new key with the vehicles receiver. My advice is contact your dealer! Sorry!!

After Starting my 1998 Range Rover HSE

If you have oxygen sensors fitted to the vehicle (wires coming from front of exhaust)then the fuel could be causing the engine light to come on.SRS light is probably caused by your seat belt catch not working , you could maybe find a good used part at a breakers yard.Check that the wires are o.k before buying.

Engin wont start

If the engine is turning but not catching, then its probably the fuel pump. I recently had this problem, and was hoping that the fuel filter or fuel lines were blocked, but in that case, the engine would start, then die off. That being said, fuel pump replacement on a 98 Rover is $1200+. The best thing to do is, after getting a diagnostic to make sure its actually the fuel pump that needs repair, going online to buy a fuel pump instead of letting auto repair shops buy it from the manufacturer. This'll save you at least $300 or so dollars.
