What size/type battery do you recommend?

I would recommend the Interstate MT-34 for your car. Highly rated by Consumer Reports. I have used this battery in Series 3 XJs for years. They have a good warranty also.

My 1985 XJ6 Jaguar sunroof

The sunroof motor is accessable from the trunk. A winder handle for emergency use was provided when the car was new but you can use another tool to do the job. Take off the rear bulkhead panel and the motor will be visable and you will see the shaft to turn the sunroof manually. Good luck!

How do I get at the alternator on a 1982 jaguar

The alternator for this model is removed from under the passenger side of the engine compartment. Loosen all the belts first and disconnect the battery prior to beginning the job. You may have to loosen and swing the sway bar out of the way. Not a bad job, nothing special.

The detachable radio in my

The electrical connections where the face and radio connect get dirty and worn.and some tiomes they will spread and not make a good connection. you can clean them and try to bend the connections in the radio a little closer together. If this doesn't help then the face is probably shorted out. you will have to replace the radio.

Where is the thermal switch

First check the master switch has not been turned off. If that is off then windows will not operate. So confirm the master switch is turned on.Now if the master switch is on then,go to the aux fuse panel and in aux fuse panel check the relay (far right at the top ,its a round relay) for power to pin #85 with the key on and continuous power to pin #30/51. If that is ok apply power to the red w/slate tracer wires on pin #87 and see if the windows operate. If they do then replace the relay.

Ive recently bought a 1988

Amazing cars and fun too! It is not uncommon for these motors to fail. Sometimes if you smack the door just right or try to activate the window switch while closing the door. If it activates, replace the window motors. If you have a volt meter, you can remove the door panels and check to see if you are getting voltage to the motors while activating the switch. Let me know.

1985 jaguar xj6 window will not work at all. no

It's probably a switch... the switches are located such that drinks contaminate the contacts... if you are careful you can spay some contact cleaner in to the switch and then exercise the switch....that might fix it.

1984 jaguar xj6

Hello, I have seen many differentials go bad on this model but you saying that the noise went away after you sprayed it with water doesn't make sense. If you want to check the wheel bearings, jack up the car and check the movement of your wheels by grabbing the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom of the tire with other and see if there is too much movement. If there is too much movement, then you need to replace the wheel bearings. (big job)
You also need to check the brake calipers to see if they are sticking. You can take a large screw driver and pry back the pads. They should move back with a little effort. If not, maybe the calipers are sticking.
I hope this helps.

I have a 1983 jaguar xj6 thats having problems

Sounds like you have a loose ground wire usually found at the the battery post, the distributor, coil or altenator. When a ground wire is loose it will sometimes start the car and let you drive until you go over a bump or make a turn or when you hit your brakes hard especially when parking and then it disconnects and the car will cut off and not start up when you return. Also make sure battery posts are clean and tight.

How do I remove the rear break calipers from my

if the calipers are like my 85 xj6 - it is a pain -
take of the plate covering the shock absorbers.
at the top of the caliper is the e-brake caliper - there are 2 tabs holding the bolts. bend the tabs back - remove the bolts, springs, and e brake caliper.
remove brake line going to caliper.
2 big bolts hold the main caliper - they are wired together with safety wire. cut the wire and remove the bolts.
the caliper should come out -
be patient. very difficult job.
