STEAM FROM EXAUST

When you first start the car in cold weather it is normal for the exhaust to emit water vapour (steam) until the engine reaches normal running temperature.

I put coolant in my ad its blowing cooler but not

Coolant will keep the engine from overheating and will give you heat when cold but will not make it blow cold. That's what refrigerant is for.

Fuel system 37 failure, what does this mean and how do you fix it?

just block off the the EGR valve with a home made gasket from a coca cola can ,its not important and will not stop the car from running ,check the fuel pressure as this i think could be the problem it should read 55lbs ,on the fuel rail is tyre valve looking thing ,undo the cap and put a pressure gaug on here ,one of them stick type tyre pressure gauges will do the job as your in the middle of nowhere ,just check the fuel line pressure and iam sure you wll find its low and new pump could be the order of the day

No fire going to plugs 1994 jaguar xj6

Try replacing the plug wires. Unfortunately you can't replace just one, so you're going to have to replace the whole set.

1994 jaguar xj6 will not stsrt

Check immobiliser switch (fitted to drivers side footwell on Right hand drive cars) designed to kill engine and fuel pump if car turns over. Sometimes jumping the kerb can set them off. Also check central electrode in distributor cap.

1994 jaguar ignition coil...my car turns over but sometimes wont start. We put a tester on the fuel pump to see if that was it, but when it didn't start the pressure was at 44lbs so it was working

Hi Kenny, The fuel pressure is on the low side. I would also check the crank and cam pickup sensors. Another point of interest should be the temperature sender unit that sends to the computer. I would suspect the igniter before the ignition coil. regards John

Fuel code 17 on a 1990 Jaguar XJ6 - what does it mean?

That code 17 is for the throttle position sensor located on the bottom of the throttle body. This code is caused 99% of the time caused by a bad sensor. Here's how to test it. Go to the sensor connector and make sure you have 5 volts on pin 2 pink/purple and a ground on pin 1 black/yellow. Then go to pin 3 green/yellow and you should read about .80 volts and it should increase to about 4.90 volts. Make sure the signal does not drop out.Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer. Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

well I hope is not too late for this if you still have the problems with the car first you had to remember how ofthen the service to the engine there re three tings on the engine to start air gas a spark and all go together first check the fuel pressure then for spark on the sparkplugs check the air filter if is bad or dirty replace it there is a sensor after the air filter they call it mass sensor if the air filter get too dirty that sensor get dirty too on that sensor are two or three little transistors you can get a mass sensor cleaner in an autozone or autoparts and they can tell you how to use it

Our air conditioner works in the 94 Jaguar. We turn on the heat and it works in back seat but not in the front. Any ideas?

Hi Larry, That would seem to b something to do with the ducting controls. Unfortunately to get to them means stripping the center consul and center instrument controls. the flap is either stuck or a cable or lever is broken. I'm not too familiar with the actual job so I'll withdraw my advise from here on in. If you would like to go ahead and tackle it make sure of taking photo's or make sketches and lable everything as you remove so that you know where they fit back. Regards John

Jaguar xJ6 X300 The electric seat has stopped

the motors stick ( freeze ) i have heard that disconect the battery for an hour helps with this, and you may need to reprogram everything after..

Open the boot lid and drivers door, and switch on the ignition. Rock the valet switch, in the centre console, 5 times. The system will chirp to indicate it has entered learning mode.

On models with seat/mirror/steering wheel memory functions, the first remote will be linked to memory 1, second to memory 2 etc.

Press the larger, lock, button of the remote. The system will chirp to confirm it has got the signal. If it doesn't receive any signals for 15 seconds, it will chirp twice and exit learn mode.

To programme further remotes, rock the valet switch once. The system will chirp twice for remote number two, three times for number three etc, then press the lock button of the remote as above.

When finish, wait 15 seconds for the system to time out and chirp twice, turn off the ignition, close the doors and boot lid and the job is done!
