How to replace fuel filter on 2001 Elantra?

I looked around and removed the rear seat, opened the cover and removed the fuel pump and took it completely apart. I did not find a fuel filter inside, so I reassembled everything. Now I have a replacement OEM fuel filter and don't know where it fits........

I have changed these before, but never on a hyundai, so if someone could help, would appreciate it.

PO420 code for 2003 Elantra

I have got a PO420 diagnostic code for my 2003 Hyundai Elantra, the sellsman said it was a Catalytic Convertor defective? Also gave a list of other possiabilities 2) Engine missfires or running problems (which this is not a problem) 3) Large Vacuum leak?? I have not heard any leakage and 4) Engine oil leakage into exhaust but i have not seen any smoking....So have any idea that it probley is the Catalystic Convertor...thanks Danny

Danny,

Catalytic Converter Failure is a common cause of a P0420 Code. 1.) I would give a few calls to some muffler shops and get a thorough exhaust inspection done. As a leaking/damaged Exhaust Manifold, Catalytic Converter, or exhaust pipe could be some of the culprits as well. If it were any of those other items your car would give you a different OBD Code. Item #2.) This is not common with a P0420 Code. With the P0420 code you should have no driveability issues. (not to say that you wouldnt in an extreme rarety) Item #3.) Again this would flag an entirely different code such as P0455 (Large Evap Emission Leak) Item#4.) Engine Oil would not even set a code. I hope this helps you out, and thank you for using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC

I just came from an Autozone, and then spoke with 2 Hyundai dealership service departments and they all three stated the P0113 code is the Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT, also referred to as the Mass Air Pressure - MAP - sensor) on the engine, not an O2 sensor found in the exhaust system.

Air bag light stays on

Just purchased a 2001 Hyundai Elantra for my son. The airbag light stays on on the dashboard. Does that mean the airbag is working, or not working? There was no owners manual with this car, and I'd like to know.

If your airbag light comes on it means its not working. Some of the newer airbag systems have weight sensors under the seats and anything lodged under them can disable the passenger airbag and possibly cause the light to go on. If there are no other symptoms, and nothing impeding the airbags then the car thinks the airbag wont work. If you are concerned for your son's safety, take it to a qualified mechanic and have them check/replace your airbag. Good Luck!

2001 Elantra stall, loss of power. Driving at

2001 Elantra stall, loss of power. Driving at 40-50km/hr or on idle, cutting out, hicupping on occasions. Intermittent check engine light (on then off) for short duration, no code registers, RPMs drop down & car loses power - all synched to the duration of the check engine light. Most times check engine light goes off and car runs normally. On some occurrences, check engine light stays longer and the car dies. Restarts OK and can be working for several days then same issue again. Dealer thinks may be ignition switch, possibly TPS & crank sensor. Happened while my mechanic was test-driving it. He thinks fuel pump is OK. Run diagnostics on transmission, no issues found.
Read on "2000 Hyundai ELANTRA Recall ID from NHTSA: 00V259001" about the MAF.
Big puzzle, I'll be extremely grateful to whomever figures this out.
Thank you

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I was told that the engine code that comes up when the sensor is on is called "Absolute Pressure In The Manifold". I was told by a "Hyundai Specialist" that when that code comes up it usually means that the seal on the manifold is Fuct. When my mechanic checked that out for me he had noticed that my manifold had 4 cracks in it(can varify cause he showed me). He replaced the manifold and gasket. The car ran fine for about 2-3 days and since then the problem has since come back and my check engine light will no longer go on/off it only stays on. Because of the check engine light always staying on I have noticed that on many occasions my car will hiccup many times in a row. The only way to stop the hiccup I have noticed is to take my foot right of the gas for approx. 2-3 sec then car will continue without hiccup(till it happends all over again). All in all I have been having this problem now for approx. 1 year and if there is somehow someway it could be repaired I would appretiate it.

Dear fellow Elantranians,
I am an original owner of a 2002 Elantra (w/anti-theft module/ETACS), and have wrestled with the same problem for months: remote will unlock, but not lock doors.
The answer to the problem, at least in my case, was a door lock relay (Part #95250-2D000) located behind the center dash, to the right and below the radio and heater/AC controls (removal and replacement reasonably easy). A simple removal of one bolt and a wire connector, and the little devil is exorcised. It's been working without a hitch for more than two weeks, and expect it to continue for eleven years as the original relay did. I purchased this relay from a local salvage yard for $14.00, but a Hyundai dealership (jimellishyundaiparts.com), will sell it to you for $36.00.
Respectfully,
Lucky Elantanian
