Tryin to locate the keyless entry reciever and the Set/Off button

The ETACS unit, which controls the alarm, is bolted to the dash chassis and is located immediately behind the climate control cluster. You need to gain access to this unit to code a new remote. Technically, you are not coding the remote; what you are doing is re-programming the ETACS module to remember and accept the secret code transmitted by the remote. The ETACS unit is designed to remember and accept up to two remote codes. If you wish to add a third remote, the dealer must program the third remote to utilize the same code from one of the other two remotes (called code-saving). There is no way to do this yourself.

The Project

1) Remove the dash facia using the "Easy Dashboard Removal" DYI posted
here by member kmr327.

2) Remove the four screws securing the climate control cluster, pull it forward, and remove the wiring harness.

3) Using a flashlight, (and cramming your head), find the sticker that marks the location of the set switch on the ETACS unit. It is on the right side of the ETACS unit, below the antenna input (the antenna can be unplugged -- it utilizes the same type connecter as the AM/FM antenna). Note the positions on the sticker for "Off" and "Set". By default, the switch is in the "Off" position, which is the normal functioning position. Next to the sticker is a small piece of tape covering the recessed slider switch, which you can not actually see. Remove the tape with a razor blade or by picking at it with your fingernail.

4) Once the tape is removed, use a jeweler's screwdriver or other similar small tool to flip the switch into the "Set" position. (Note: if you unplugged the antenna from the ETACS unit, the antenna must be plugged into the ETACS unit at this point and the car's battery must be connected). You are now ready to code the remote. NOTE: When you code the new remote, you must re-code your old one at the same time or the old one will no longer work. To code the remote, press either the lock OR the unlock button of the remote once. Do the same thing for the second remote. Try to do the second remote within two seconds of the first one. Slide the switch back to the "Off" position. Verify that both remotes function. If they do not, set the switch to the "Set" position again and repeat the procedure. If you continually run into problems, try coding only one remote. I have heard on some of the forums that the second remote has to be pressed within a second of the first and that it may take several attempts to be successful. I did not encounter this problem.

5) Reassemble the dash facia.

Hope this information is useful!

What will old gas do to it?

You may just start with the basics; spark plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel air filters. If you want to save time, this will immediately knock out several possibilities and it would only take a couple hours. If you are concerned with your gas, you can run a bottle of "gas dry" in the tank. It will draw out moisture, which is the biggest issue with gas at this time of year.

Can a remote start be installed in a car with NO KEYLESS ENTRY? no alarm system...just a key to open doors

Yes. After market remote start kits don't care about keyless entry or alarm systems. You will get a separate key fob to operate the remote starter.

2001 Elantra door locks controlled by the drivers door lock no longer work. Happened yesterday.

There should be a fuse that runs the power locks. Check and make sure it didn't blow.

Why does it start only occasionally?

It could be the coil, yes .. but it could also be a number of other things such as fuel/fuel pump/sensors. Don't spend money replacing parts one after the other in the hope that it will cure the problem. Go to a workshop and ask them to run a diagnostic check to identify the fault. This really is the most effective and cheapest way of doing things. Alternatively, give a mobile mechanic a call. Those guys are usually very good

Fuel gauge stays on full

Sounds like you have a bad sending unit in your gas tank. You will need to take it to a mechanic to get checked. This isn't really a do it yourself type repair since it involves removing the gas tank.

How to replace the 2.0L motor

If you do not have technical proficiency seek the advice of a mechanic... if you mean replacing a faulty engine. If you mean that you want to change for a more powerful engine, from a different vehicle perhaps, then you should contact somebody with far east vehicles, somebody with experience of toyota/honda/proton/kia/ etc. It may be that there is a more powerful engine in variants of that model, check online for dettails of the model range, you might find something more powerful, if that is what you are looking for. That is probably your best bet as the parts for a straightforward swap will be easily purchaseable good luck with this

2001 Elantra stall, loss of power. Driving at

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I was told that the engine code that comes up when the sensor is on is called "Absolute Pressure In The Manifold". I was told by a "Hyundai Specialist" that when that code comes up it usually means that the seal on the manifold is Fuct. When my mechanic checked that out for me he had noticed that my manifold had 4 cracks in it(can varify cause he showed me). He replaced the manifold and gasket. The car ran fine for about 2-3 days and since then the problem has since come back and my check engine light will no longer go on/off it only stays on. Because of the check engine light always staying on I have noticed that on many occasions my car will hiccup many times in a row. The only way to stop the hiccup I have noticed is to take my foot right of the gas for approx. 2-3 sec then car will continue without hiccup(till it happends all over again). All in all I have been having this problem now for approx. 1 year and if there is somehow someway it could be repaired I would appretiate it.

I lost my master key and have no spares, went to hyundia garage for new keys to be coded and the sed they cant get them programmed the car system wasnt responding, they wanted extra time on this

when a service dealer centre make statements like that I become suspicious especially when a new part is mentioned the procedure is when new keys are involved they program the key and the immobiliser together as a unit and that is why they need both the key and the car for the job ask around other dealers or people who can do this on your car and get quotes and second opinions
