Took my newly purshased but
Hal, I'm sorry to hear about such a new purchase on such a lovely car. It's been my experience that most of these oil change places or even places like FireStone, where they do auto "repair", will not touch these cars due to the fact that a lot of technicians just do not have the experience on these these cars to be safe. Case in point, I have been a tech for over 20 years, mostly european cars, military vehicle from trucks to tanks, and even a lot of cars you can not bring into the states (middle east), in those travels I did take a service manager job at a large name auto repair facilty. I hired a friend whom I trusted. I had a client with Porsches who brought me the cars. My friend would not touch them. I had to get out there, undo the tube from the holding tank and almost measure out 15 -16 quarts. Refill with new oil and check. Is it possible to do that much damage? Yes it is!! The case itself does not hold that much oil at any given time. It would be the equivalent of pouring 20 quarts into your Chevy and hoping for the best. The given on these is about 16 quarts, 4 gallons, 32 pints, however they wish to measure. T o go over increases crankcase preasure behind the piston instead of on top where the pressure is originally. The oil is forced past the rings and IF the engine is still running at that point, will smoke burning the oil along with the atomized fuel which in turn since it can not burn the oil entirely will force some out into the "cats". These are high compression engines and can be very delicate when not properly handled. It is possible, since oil is now forced past the rings and into the combustion chamber, to also be pushed past the intake and definately the exhaust valves to ruin the 1. catalytic converters 2. M.A.P. sensor 3. the turbo (possible) 4. spark plugs (all 12) and the list could go on since the engine had been ran. Do I believe they are liable? I do. I believe that they led you to believe that they could handle a car that they either have not done or did one other and probably got lucky on. These shops also have a high turn around rate for employees which means, the guy or tech( I use that term loosely), whom had done 1 or 2 of these before is probably not there any more. Feel free to get a hold of me again. Sorry about your loss. Kori
