Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern by operating the autolamps.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage; refer to the following chart:
Visual Inspection Chart
Mechanical
Electrical
- Headlamp switch
- Autolamp switch
- Autolamp sensor
- Blown fuse(s)
- Damaged wiring harness
- Headlamp bulb
- Loose or corroded connection
- Lighting control module (LCM)
- If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is properly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
- If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
- Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS responds with:
- CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for lighting control module (LCM), go to Pinpoint Test A.
- SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and perform self-test diagnostics for the LCM.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.

Problems on 2001 lincoln town car kill switch
When you turn the key to the start position does the starter spin the engine > Is the security light on steady or flashing when trying to start the car ? Is there spark , fuel pressure ? Video's on youtube showing how to check these thing's !
How to fix P0302 and P0401 error codes for Lincoln Town Car 2001?
code p 0302 i cylinder 2 --misfire detected ===causes --- engine mechanical fault ( valve seat insert loose , burnt valve , cam followers/ hydraulic followers faulty)---wiring---ignition/fuel system---injector--ECT/MAF sensor ---ECM
possible injector fault ( blocked tip)
code p 0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system--insufficient floe detected ==== causes --hose leak/ blockage ---basic setting not carried out (if required)---wiring---EGR valve ---EGR solenoid ---ECM
as you admit to knowing little about cars , take it to an accredited service center that works on your make of vehicle and get a proper diagnosis and quote
Use the codes information and causes I have given you when discussing the problem
Why would all the power windows quit working?
Check your fuses, most modern cars have 2 fuse boxes, one inside the cabin usually near leg height , other one should be under the hood, just check the fuses to the according circuit printed usually on the inside of the fuse box cover, if its blown there might be a problem with your circuit so simply replacing the fuse might not be a fix.
Lincoln tow car 2001 passive anti tip DTC 1260 I replaced pcm.trancevier.instrument cluster.2new ignition key but no communication this module what possible problem this?
No where in the DTC - description does it say anything about replacing any modules . An does not have anything to do with a communication problem ! You need a professional grade scan tool to communicate with the PATS system ! An if you don't know these thing's you better take it to pro !!!!!!!
P1260 - Theft Detected - Vehicle Immobilized
Indicates that the passive anti-theft system (PATS) has determined a theft condition existed and the engine is disabled. This DTC is a good indicator to check the PATS for DTCs.
- Previous theft condition
- Anti-Theft System failure
Theft indicator flashing rapidly or on solid when ignition switch is in the ON position. Check anti-theft system for DTCs. Typical vehicle symptoms are: Start/Stall or Crank/No Start. NOTE: No crank symptom only on vehicles equipped with PATS starter disable feature
