How do you get into the trunk with a dead battery

Buy a cheap battery charger that plugs into the lighter socket. The battery will come up enough to pop the trunk. If you are in a hurry, you could power up the system under the hood by attaching 12v to ground and the back of the alternator if you know how.

The mechanic who rebuilt my heads on my 99 xk8 jag

be sure that the cams are not on the engine when you rotate the engine . this will damage the valve train. there are 3 tools needed to set up the timing,
crankshaft setting peg #303-531
camshaft locking tool #303-530
chain tensioning tool #303-532
mitchell on demand 5 has a really good step by step with diagrams on how to set up your engine, you may try some of the shops in your area to see it they would run off a copy.

Hello I have a jaguar

This motor has a DOHC configuration with hydraulic self-adjusting tappets - so a noise on them is practically impossible unless they are worn out to a level that makes the functioning of the motor problematic.
The noise is almost surely coming from one of the distribution chains, the automatic tensioner has failed and the chain is now loose.
Here
http://www.mediafire.com/?nkz20lhkzjn
you can find an engine repair manual with diagrams - the tensioner will have to be replaced.

Aligning the valve timing mareks except twincam

Timing Chain, Sprockets, Front Cover and Seal REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Crankshaft Damper and Front Oil Seal
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Cooling fans
    • Crankshaft pulley and damper, using a holding fixture as shown
    • Front crankshaft seal Fig. 1: Crankshaft pulley removal tool - V8 9301jg12.gif
    To install:
  3. Install oil seal replacer tool JD-235 to the oil seal. Use the nut and bolt provided with the tool to fully seat the seal to the timing cover.
  4. For dampers which DO NOT utilize a spit locking ring:
    1. Apply a thin, even coating of Loctite® 648 to the damper bore. Do not apply it to the end faces or to the crankshaft.
    2. Install the crankshaft damper onto the crankshaft. Wipe off any Loctite that has squeezed out from the front of the damper.
    3. Install the locking tool to the damper. Tighten the bolt to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm), plus an 80 degree turn.
  5. For dampers which utilize a spit locking ring:
    1. Install a new O-ring seal to the damper.
    2. Install the crankshaft damper.
    3. Apply petroleum jelly to the damper bore and O-ring seal.
    4. Install the damper onto the crankshaft.
    5. Install the split locking ring onto the crankshaft, inside the center bore of the damper.
    6. Install the locking tool to the damper.
    7. Tighten the damper bolt to 266-285 ft. lbs. (364-386 Nm).
    8. Remove the locking tool from the damper.
  6. Install or connect the following:
    • Cooling fans
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Negative battery cable

My 99 Jag xj8 turns

ok, just because the battery is cranking over, does not mean that the cell inside the battery are not weak. they will always take a charge. but as to how long they will keep that charge is the problem. all 12v systems are as follows so check yours.

all should have no more than 14.5v during a charge(engine running) anymore it will fry not only the battery, but other componets as well.

all should have no less than 12v with the engine off, and a load test of no more than 15sec, and a drop of 10v or higher should be present.

with a good battery and alt, there should be a drop in voltage no less than 8v during a start crank, and after it starts it should rapidly return to a 12.5v to 14.5v charge. I suggest to have the battery and altinator tested for a load, and cell state.

Where's my battery in the

right hand side of trunk
On the 2001 models, Remove the floor pan in the boot then lift the panel on the right. The battery is situated underneath along with fuses & relay switches. If you can't open the trunk with the dead battery, then go to the hood, then you'll see a power point to hook a charger or jumper battery that will light the interior up for the trunk and the lock motor will open up.c

Starter removal and installation.

I tried autozone.com's how to section, but it was experiencing technical difficulties at this time.
It says to try again later.

I also tried my other online resource, but there was no data on the replacement of the starter.
I would try autozone.com later.

Input your year, make, and model into the fields, before inquiring about repair information or 'Product and How To Info.' on the left side of the website after clicking on 'Repair Info.'
