there could be lots of reasons. you need to get a obd2 code reader or someone with relevant diagnostic gear to help. sounds like you have a problem with the can network the drivers door module is part of that system so is the security system. it may let not start the engine go to someone with correct diagnostic equipment thats my advise

Could be several things. A clogged fuel filter, a non-working fuel pump, or a defective crank (angle) sensor, for example.

A defective crank angle sensor will prevent the ECU from knowing when to injecting fuel or make spark so it won't do either! The ECU will store a code if that is the problem.

Check the fuel pressure in the fuel rail. If none, the fuel pump may not run (or the in-line fuel filter is clogged.)

Check for fuel pressure and spark. If the gas is fresh, it ought to start.

We really need code numbers. What you call comprehensive, I might call emissions. ???

If you can locate the actual switch that the door activates you could exercise that switch to see if it is a problem with the switch. Look in the door frame for the switch. If it is not a switch problem then you could disconnect the battery to reset the system to see if the door sign goes out.

Not sure about this ,could their be a seperate fuse for the amplifier ? or one inside it even--- have the wires broke inside the multiconnector .I have a 94 XJ sovereign and their is no amp in this model that i know of as i have had all the seats out when fitting the recovered headlining and having the front drivers seat repaired.Mine has a radio cassete in the front and a CD player in the trunk or boot in proper english .But all joking aside if it has a amp under the back seat like the big jeep thing i repair for a neighbour then providing you understand the wiring then it cannot much of a job to wire one of these in from a different car where you can get one one from a scrapyard cheaply compared to jaguar spares which are well expensive.Look on the internet for david manners jaguar spares UK ,i have found this company very good when ordering spares that are virtualy unobtainable here in spain so weither thay have a amp for your car i dont know but iam currently restoring a XJS V12 1989 for a friend and doing the paperwork to import it onto a historic plate here in spain and i can say i havent even look at the stereo to be honest.Take the amp out and ask a local TV repair man to have a have a look and the older the repair man the more experiance they will have with solid state transistor circuits and may be able to fit new output trannies if they are blown .Iam at the jaguar owners club meeting today so i will ask any owners if they know of a amp in these vehicles ,i dont know everything about every make of model of car on the road i admit it but if their is a way i can fix things i will so be a bit patient and ask around as iam sure their will be a owners club in your neck of the woods ,look on www.jec.org ,if you look at spain you will see me in one of the group pics iam the tall ugly one at the back ---

depends on the model of your car, on mine (XKR) the cruise stopped working because of a faulty microswitch behind the brake pedal, there are two microswitches, one to turn on the brake lights and the other is used by the ECU to make sure you are not pressing the brake (which is the signal to cancel cruise). If that switch is faulty the car will not enter cruise mode. Hope that helps, Nick.

if you mean the sill inside the door or the kicker plate or what ever you want to call it in your neck of the woods the its easy the silver plate is held down by a magnet strip so you just lift it with a screwdriver in one corner and then get fingers around it and lift it ,under this you will see 4 screws with a 30 head in torx --simple when your told as i was because i didnt know eithier

Need to use a stethoscope to listen for noise

Could be you need a new radiator & thermostat
& change all the hoses ,as well as the pump

15 year old vehicle, time to put some work into it.

The pump, if it hasn't leaked yet, it will & you may feel
play in it once free from any drive belt or pulley

I was referring to ALL hoses,heater & others,they need
to go around every 8 years

There is no checking of a water pump other than removing it

They don't last for 15 years

Runs hot because the radiator is clogged or stat stuck
or you have ignition problems, blocked exhaust converter, etc

ALL ALL of those need to be checked once your done working
on the cooling system

New spark plugs, check ignition for misfires, replace any converter
over 12 to 14 years old, oxygen sensors every 100,00 miles

The pump is in the boot/trunk above the CD player

Sounds like your starter may be shorted out. That is A LOT of juice flowing when a jump occurs, so most any engine will at least turn over. Load test the starter. Load test the alternator. Perhaps one of those is the culprit.
Let us know what you find.
