If you tap on the blower housing and it starts to operate, that is it. Inspect the plug at the speed resistor and the blower motor. If the plugs and pins are damaged from overheating. If it were me, I'd pull the entire sending unit all in one piece from the junkyard and install it. Bet that would solve your problem. Sounds like something in the sending unit is bad or bent or something or not in tank properly which replacing the whole unit will solve.

Could be lots of things...fuel pump, crank or cam sensor, a relay, etc

All of these responses are surely possibilities but I believe the brake control switch is out of adjustment. A simple look up of how to adjust the position on the switch should solve this issue.
