P2251 o2 bank 1 censor 1 negative current circut / open. What does this code mean? can car be driven?

Basically what this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) means is that the ground wire in the circuit of this O2/oxygen sensor has a short or an open circuit leading to the vehicles computer (PCM) and it is not giving the PCM the correct information it needs in order to make the vehicle run as efficient as it should. Your fuel injectors open and close at certain times to give the vehicle the fuel it needs. The function of the O2 sensor which is located in your exhaust pipe is to "read" how much fuel is going through the exhaust. The mare fuel that goes through the exhaust tells the O2 sensor that it's geting too much fuel which sends a singnal to the PCM to "tell" the fuel injector to not stay open as long, that it doesn't need that much fuel. If the O2 sensor detects not enough it telss the PCM to leave the fuel injector open longer. This is for fuel economy as well as for the enviroment. In answer to your question, yes the vehicle can be driven but you will not be geting the gas mileage you normally have due to your PCM not knowing how much fuel to allow the vehicle to have. Luckily you PCM will take over and open and close the injector to what it thinks is best to keep the vehicle running. It kind of over rides itself in order to keep the car running instead of depending on readings from your sensors. I hope this helps you better understand what the funtion of the O2 sensor is and why this DTC is happening. Below is a description for you as well. I will add one more thing though. If you do continue to run your vehicle like it is, it will give less life to your spark plugs and cat. converter.12_29_2011_7_49_25_pm.jpg12_29_2011_7_49_45_pm.jpg

My break lights don't work

You may have a blown fuse. Have you checked your fuses. If not, the fuse you will want to check is in the fuse panel inside the vehicle. Below is a diagram of the fuse layout. The fuse you will want to check is the fuse in the number 16 position. The other possible problem could be the brake light switch located up under the dash on the brake pedal shaft. I hope this helps.12_11_2011_7_17_14_pm.jpg

when Check light glows you have to connect OBD-ll code reader/ scanner to find out code problem. If you or your friends don't have one - you have to go to the shop. If you have one - it usually connects on driver side next to the "hood" opening handle. Turn the key to "ON" (do not start the car), plug it in, and reed the scanner.

Ck engine light stays on.

Gas milage (economy) is dependent upon the O2 Snsr's (oxygen Sensors) input to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). The cam position sensor, if malfunctioning, it should be replaced (cleaning it doesn't repair the problem which exists inside the component/sensor). Before you start throwing money after parts, Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue.
