I would say you need to have the transmission rebuilt.

Does it sound like an exhaust pipe hitting the floor, or is it a different sound?

You need to remove the cluster and you will see all the light bulbs for the entire cluster. turn counter-clockwise about a1/4 turn and they come right out.

The release contact switch must be dirty and corroded...you will have to jiggle the rear hatch...when trying to open again...when open spray the hold down bracket, and the under side of the hatch that makes contact...the best spray for this is PB Blaster, available at Walmart auto parts section...this will not hurt the electric contacts...as you still cannot open the rear hatch, you will need to remove the inside panel of the rear hatch to expose the release arm on the inside of the hatch. They are called tamper resistant bits. Try harbor freight or ebay.

Change the ECM too if they can exchange. Your car controlled by ECM so see this work.

check the wheel/axle bearings for condition and replace if loose.

It sounds like an issue with your steering or suspension. Because it gets louder and faster as you drive, it is almost certainly something that is either loose, or worn out. I have seen tires that have a bump or a blister on them to create a bumping noise, like you're driving over several speed bumps at once. I would take it to a trusted place and just have them do a front end inspection. Some places will even do this for free, hoping they'll find a problem and make their money back. I believe that Midas was doing free front end inspections. If not, lots of places will do it when you get your oil changed, etc. You may want to look under it yourself and just see if you can push or pull on anything and feel any slack or looseness.
