IT may need a new alternator

no comma's used. wow. ok, dash board goes dead, everything , radio too? head lights go dead. or just the cluster dies. or just cluster back lights in PARK mode. car runs ok.? the cluster (if only its bad) has 2 fuses, replace those. if that dont fix it ,scan the pcm , using any scan tool ever sold.

that is because you have Part time 4wd? (what do you have)? and must not drive on pavement free of ice. its now winding up the drive train, bad for it too. drive, to dirt, sand, gavel or grass and shift out of 4wd. or jack up 1 tire, and same, one tire must be on slippery surface. at least. http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html this happens on all PT 4wd or using LOCK on AWD. dont.

Is there a chance that you got a lot of moisture in the alternator too? I would check that out but also look to see if the unit is still tight in the bracket and the belt is snug - all with the engine off. Whatever is loose needs to be tightened.

which engine? we cant guess here. not ever. please edit your post. say car cranks ok but will not start or my car will not crank. (to different systems, there) Cranking symptoms. or EFI running issues.

1. take car or radio to dealer and proof of car reg, tell him..... sure
2. same take to any autolock smith that does radios, most do.
3. go to the online store same deal.
4. hacking, there are radio hack sites, google finds them all but watch out for virus infected key gens. (exe progs)

google all day might find a site that will give you a code for freemost want $25 online, most are illegal in uSA (done with out proof of owner ship, yes, its a federal law here)YMMVYCMV (c for code)

Balance the tyres first. If that doesn´t help, check all suspension and steering components for play

Try resetting the asd "auto shut down fuse had a similar problem the jeep would crank but did not get spark or gas also check your fuel pump? and the asd relay may be bad it will prevent the jeep from getting no spark and will not fire some jeeps have security problems

is their power going to the starter? take a volt meter and turn key on and see if your getting juice to the starter ? or make sure the ground to the frame is attached also.

Check input circuit from liftgate switch to body computer. If circuit is open with switch dis-connected, check output circuit from body computer. You will need a wiring diagram, if circiut is powered with switch dis-connected, replace body computer.

jeeps have more than one engine so which one? (some have 3) vacuum varies by country and engine, (smog AND epA Laws here)) and if in the USA, the vacuum map is under the hood of all usa cars. open hood see that>? the EPA sticker with spark gaps and vacuum.? map. it's in the FSM , factory service manual its at alldata.com, log in and read there. there are but a few. on OBD2 cars. fewer yet on 4.0L with no egr. just evap fuel pressure reg. map sensor?: tell what engine you have. or google Jeep engine size vacuum map use google image too. there are like 5 million 4.0L running now. no lack of data on it,and endless forum posts on jeep forums post engine or post photos with ends not connected .

since you comment about it starting but dying it is POSSIBLE that it is the ignition switch, but since the vehicle is OBDII compliant beg borrow or rent a test unit and plug it in under the dash in the trapezoidal connecter and see what it has to say, The likelihood is that it isn't the switch since you state that it "sputters and dies". Normally when it is a switch it just shuts right down without any additional drama. This could be a bad ECM. As I have run across the exact same symptoms on the 98 JGC before.

If your car is moving when it does this, check that the wires are on tight to the blower motor.

Check for power at the motor when activating the window switch, if there is power, and no motor noise the motor is bad. If you can hear the motor, the motor's clutch is bad. A lot of times, the motor & clutch are one unit.

you need to check all sensor connections as the crank shaft sensor also will mess up your idle....try slightly unscrewing the tps and push it up or down slightly to see if this fixes the problem.
