I have a 2002 volvo s60 2.4 turbo i just purchased and the temp guage doesnt work, the fan wont run and the car has issues starting. I believe the cooling sensor was just replaced. When the cooling sensor is plugged in it will not start and when it is unplugged the car will start but it turns over for a bit before it will fire up. I believe the injectors are kicking too much gas out. I heard that the module may be bad and need to be replaced or reprogrammed. Not sure if the cooling sensor is linked with a module or not or what my next step should be to get the fan to cool the engine and the car to start up when the sensor wire is connected. Thanks
Take it one step at a time. First, replace the coolant sensor and try to get the car to start WITH the sensor connected. Make sure that you DO NOT use any teflon tape when installing the switch (this will isolate the switch which will not ground it, making it not work). Th computer receives signals from numerous sensors, and makes adjustments according to inputs received. When the computer gets a signal that the car is still cold, it will adjust the fuel/air ratio to make it run richer (more fuel than air). Once the car is running it will run rough due to a improper mixture since the computer is never sensing the car is warmed up since the sensor is unplugged. This will also account for the slow start due to a richer fuel mixture.

Volvo S60, 2002 model automatic gearbox had been overhauled and have severe shock action from neutral to reverse and normal shifting from two to three flare shifting. the servo band burnt two previous times.
Please give advise and is prepare to take up premium action.
Make sure that you have the transmission software updated. Volvo has had many upgrades on their transmission's control software to address these exact symptoms.

My 2001 Volvo S60 keeps showing "Low Battery Voltage" and the battery is not charging. What could be responsible and how do I rectify the problem?
i had the same problem with my dash saying battery voltage low and the problem was my alternator. took it to the dealership and it cost me $400.00 to replace a connector on the alternator because for my year car a (2002) they don't replace entire alternator.

"WHEN RESETTING THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT ON VOLVO S60 CODE 042 APPEARS WHAT DOES THIS MEAN"
Brake lights and cruise control are not set properly.
Easy check - are your brake lights coming on with just the usual light touch of the pedal? If not, then the microswitch that senses that your foot is on the brake needs to be adjusted or replaced.

how do i adjust the headlights
on each headlamp assembly, there will be either one or two plastic nuts that you can turn.
If you only have one nut on each, that will adjust the vertical aim of the headlights.
If you have two nuts on each, one will adjust the vertical and the other will adjust the horizontal.
Park
your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height
from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams
and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same
bulb, only do it for the lows)
If the headlights read VOR, then
aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall.
If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

my 2002 volvo s60 is completely dead. could it be the battery? if so i need to give it a boost. where is the battery lcoated in the car
the battery is located in the trunk underneath the floor. there should be a handle on the floor and you lift it up to get to the battery. there is a positive battery cable post under the hood near the driver side strut mount, next to the fuse box.

My Volvo S60 2002 keeps stalling at stops after replacing battery. How do I reset the computer?
I had this problem on my 02 s60 after messing with the battery. The problem is that the computer is stupid and "forgets" how to manage the car if it completely loses power.
To retrain it you basically just drive the car. I've seen several sets of instructions but here's what works for me:
1. Start the car and let it idle until warmed up.
2. Using moderate throttle (don't floor it) get the car up to highway speeds.
3. Slow down to a complete stop.
4. Repeat 2-3 a few times if you're so inclined.
5. Done!
Skipping the highway part will work too, however, I've heard it can take much longer to retrain the computer (weeks to months depending on driving habits.)
