Volvos40 ignition switch dont want to work
its a bad ignition switch. the column lock will need to be drilled out and replaced. most likely the electrical portion will need to be replaced as well. You have to get the column lock assy. ordered from the dealer and it takes a few days to get it since it has to come from sweden.

Hi sorry but you will need to repair fault firstly as air bags self test every time you switch ign on you will need to scan for faults , the most comon fault is seat belt pretencioners under front seats hope I helped cheers Ron.
Replaced thermostat for 2001 Volvo S40, however,
I recently took my car in for this problem. The thermostat was replaced a year ago. This time they replaced the thermostat and the IAT (air intake temperature sensor). The thermostat was 20 and the IAT was 50, with labor it all came to $140. Most sites online that I found suggested replacing both the sensor and the thermostat at the same time. When the thermostat goes, it usually takes the sensor with it. So I'd have them replace your sensor too. Good luck.
01 s40 idle air control valve- hard to replace?
your IAC valve, idle air control valve is under the black plastic cover on the front right corner on the engine, remove cover undo valve, renew gasket and re install. ade 13 years volvo tech
