Is it hard to DIY a new ignition key cylinder? Ours is frozen and we cannot turn the key at all. Is this the best solution?
Removal & Installation
Without Air Bag
See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4
Fig. 1: Using a pair of needle nose pliers, remove the key warning buzzer switch and contacts from the steering column
Fig. 2: Lock cylinder retaining screwSome
steering columns may have a retaining screw holding the lock cylinder
in the column. When servicing this type, simply remove the retaining
screw and remove the lock cylinder.
Fig. 3: Using a small thin bladed tool, press in the ignition lock clinder retaining tab ...
Fig. 4: ... then pull out the lock cylinder from the steering column
To install:
If the lock cylinder is retained by a screw, tighten the screw to 40 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
With Air Bag
Please refer to the ignition switch removal and installation procedure.

Approximately 260,000 miles on vehicle. The pump is new. Second one that's been installed since the 230,000 mile mark. Fuel pump relay is good. Battery is new. Vehicle runs fine once the pump comes on, but requires excessive attempts to start when attempting a cold start. The vehicle can be turned off, and then restarted as long as it does not stay turned off for more than a few minutes. The entire electrical system energizes when you turn the switch to ''run'', but the fuel pump does not turn on. During the cold start, when the pump finally does turn on, I sometimes have to hold the throttle a little open to keep it from stalling until it has been running for a minute, and other times the engine will idle to high (between 2000-3000 rpms), but not all of the time. I'm pretty sure that all electrical & vacuum connections are good, but I don't know, I'm not a mechanic, I've only checked what's easily accessible. I can fix it if I can just find out what the cause of the problem is. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Again it's a '90 Cherokee/ 4.0 liter/ MPI fuel injected inline-6, 5-speed manual, 4-wheel drive. Thankyou.
A delay in fuel pump may be due to either a "lazy" relay or an insufficient ground (fender, firewall, or pump itself) It could also be a poor connection at ignition switch. However I took a look at the wiring diagram I have and it seems that there are several items connected to the power supply for the pump, which I see no real reason for even being on that circut at all. Have you tried a code check?
Only thing other that I can think of would be the anti-drainback valve in the pump, but the pump should come on and re pressurize the system, not fail to run, even if the valve was bad. To find your problem, you are going to have to do a bunch of testing, till you get an idea what is happening. Just don't assume anything is good till it can be proven to be good.
I know I have not "cured your problem, but I hope I've given you enough to go on to begin testing.

I have a 1990 jeep cherokee that sometimes will not start, the engine cranks over, but will not start. sometimes you can go days even weeks and will start no problem.most of the time when it won't start you can try after about a half hour and it will start. One time I spent all day tryin until I finally had it towed home, and it started right after it came off the tow truck. You never know when it's going to start. I have changed the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, cap & rotor, plugs & wires. Engine is a 6 cyl. 4.0 . this problem happens hot or cold. Can somebody help me please. Hi,I've got a 94 Jeep CHEROKEE XJ 4L 6 CYL,and what I can say,the problems is related to the FUEL PUMP POWER,had that problem last year, and I repalce the fuel pump,3 weeks later same problem,I checked after trying everything, and fuel pump don't get power, moving wires beside fuse box, putting petol to clean connections, and the cherokee back to the road, strange,it happens last year on may,and now the same problem, but won't start at all, crank fine, but fuel pump don't get power, fuel pump ok,relays fine,I don't know, like my cherokee but can't satnd it anymore...Can anybody or technician tell me why it happens,I live in Spain and nobody even the JEEP official service knows how to fix this problem, thanks,Luigi
Check the crank position sensor. I had the same problem in a 1989 cherokee 4.0, and the solution was simply to acomodate the sensor wiring. No replace was necesary

could i adjust valves in my 4.0 engine or does it have hydolic lifters?
Before adjusting the valves, 1. check the oil level 2. use an engine cleaner that you add to the oil (berryman's or equivalent) and run thru the engine for 30 minutes 3. change oil and filter 4 run and check for tappet noise. This may improve things without opening things up.

Hello! Been having the brown water for 2 years. Car overheats generally in summer months. Changed thermostat, and upper radiator hose, also used garden hose to flush out radiator while thermostat housing was off. I did this work on Monday. Ran car in park with A/C on for 20 minutes. No problems. Also have been running small errands since, with no overheating...until today. I was close to home when I saw the light come on. Checked engine, and light smoke was coming from engine. I have seen this before in the past, but have also driven many miles with no problems. I know I have oil mixing in the coolant, because when I flushed, there were small beads of oil in that dirty water. So, I know either my head is cracked, or I have a crack in my block. I also do have a small oil leak coming from the head. Just looking for some guidance. PLEASE hehehe
try changing head gasket and this may sort your prob. could poss be a cracked head though

No power to fuel pump 1990 jeep cherokee already checked relay its fine.
is power getting to the relay? can you bypass the relay and get it to work? there is a fusible link to the relay.look on the relay, if you connect number 87 and 30 terminals the pump should run. if no power on terminal 30 the fusible link is blown/bad.
