It could be; he has looked at the car and I can't from here. When a gasoline fueled car will crank but not start that usually means it is not getting fuel or spark. My easiest way to sort it to the basic cause is to spray starting fluid into the air intake. If it fires and dies it is the fuel system that is not working. If it doesn't fire it is most likely the spark system. These are the common things. Of course it could be a host of other stuff like broken cam drive belt, computer, but those are less common. If the shop is a trustworthy reliable shop the mechanic has checked the common stuff I have mentioned. If you don't trust the mechanic take it to another shop that has good rapport in your community or the Honda and get a second opinion.
Never give up on a ****** until you've tried the `sea-foam' TRANSMISSION treatment in it. IF FLUID LEVEL is okay, and LINKAGE is hooked up correctly, One can of sea-foam is okay, for smaller trannies.IF the sea-foam fixes it,you might wanna change the fluid and filter. don-ohio
I would check and see if you are loosing spark when it dies. If so check the distributor, the ignition module and coil are notorious for corroding up and fouling out. If this is your case, replace your distributor with a remanufactured unit.
You've just blown a fuse or, at worst, a fusible link. Check all fuses in your fuse panel and, if all are good, check the fusible link on the driver side firewall under the hood (replacement available at your local auto parts store).
