Hi there A bad or worn water pump ,you will either boil the engine water system or loose water or coolant while driving and when you stopped or water [temp] light will come on when it gets down in the header tank,AND you will hear the grinding noise as soon as you start the engine and the water pump pulley will move about when running and water will start leaking . It could be several things. The coolant level could be low. If this were the case the temperature would probably vary quickly depending on the RPMs of the engine and whether the car was moving or sitting at a stoplight. Another possibility is that the thermistat is defective and not opening wide enough. There could also be blockage in the radiator due to corrosion for a car that old. The radiator flush products work very well.

That is not a microchip it is a resistor. Find out resistor value bypass and install new resistor with the exact rating install and start car

Could be several things. First off most vehicles have an automatic emergency shut off for the fuel if the bumper is hit somehow. Look in your owners manual for the reset location. Usually located in the trunk close to the right tail light but might be elsewhere. Fuel filter could be bad. When fuel trucks unload at a station they stir up any sediment on bottom of tank. If you fuel within 30 minutes of a delivery you might get some of this with your fuel. After this happens several times it can clog your fuel filter and it might have to be replaced. Sometimes after 100,000 miles your fuel pump can go bad. It is located inside the fuel tank and is a job for a qualified mechanic. To test if you are getting fuel to the injection system, look for a chrome rail that supplies fuel to the injectors. There will be one on both sides of the engine on top and towards the center. You will notice a stem end that looks like where you would put in air like on a tire. With key on, depress the needle in the middle quickly. Some fuel will come out if your pump is good.

Let me advise you this way, look on line for a factory service Manuel other wise known as a FSM. Your car has as many tricks to go with a the gagets. So it will help you to understand.

check the wire's to the starter with a test light, have someone turn the key to the start position and see if the wire going to the starter is hot. You must use a test light to check it...

That happened to me a while back. The brake the abs light would appear and the stering wheel would harden. It ended up being the alternator. With that i also changed the battery and problem solved. I think i paid 120 for the alternator at pep boys and 100 for labor. Hope it helps.

Ok guys here is my thought about what I've read about your problem. First go to Amazon.com and get "Factory Service Manuel" for your 2001 DeVille! they are $150.00 but worth every penny. And don't let anybody work on your car with out this Manuel, period. No other manual will work! don't even think about Chilton, because they don't even touch the info you need. As far a dead battery, don"t ever just jump start a dead battery, instead remove the cables and charge it! Start you car after it is ready. because you chance blowing the ECM! As far as the other guy told you about the "ghost" readings, its true, the computer has nothing to report. But your car is very complicated even for the most top notch mechanic! that is why you need the FSM, because it contains all the tricks and info you need to know about. For example did you know that your cruse control will not operate if you have engine faults? In some situations you know even may not need a meter to plug in cause there is a chance that you can retrieve your engine fault codes just by suppling the combinations of switches. But the FSM can tell you that. let me tell stress to you, get the FSM and when you have a problem, then diagnose the problem your self. Then let a mechanic do only what you tell him to do. If anything else gets touched then it's on his Dime.
