Wiki says it more concisely : "A
vehicle identification number, commonly abbreviated to
VIN, is a unique code including a
serial number, used by the
automotive industry to identify individual
motor vehicles,
towed vehicles,
motorcycles,
scooters and
mopeds as defined in
ISO 3833.
VINs were first used in 1954.
[1] From 1954 to 1981, there was no accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats.
In 1981, the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States standardized the format.
[1] It required all over-the-road-vehicles sold to contain a 17-character VIN, which does not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0)."
97 Sable passenger window will not close.
Hard to believe the fix I have for you but it worked for us and totally surprised us too. We have a 1997 Mercury Sable, power everything and the drivers side window would not go up but all other windows worked fine. I called a car place to see about how much it would cost to fix and he told me to do this......sit in car with car on and have the door open to the window that won't go up, now hold the button in the UP position on the window and slam the door(even might have to have someone slam it for you)....when we did this the window went straight up perfectly and worked fine afterward and for 2 years. So please try it. The guy told us it would work on any power windows in any car because it just jumps the bad part or place in the window thingy lol.....good luck.
Bleed master cylinder
Brakeline behind wheel , Loosen it first hold down or pump brakes, This takes two people. one to pump up one to losen brake line, Keep repeating till breaks get stiff, then hold down and retighten breakline.
Power steering went out
The belt that drives the alternator and the power steering pump is broken it also drives the water pump. You need to have a new one onstalled.
Speed sensor issues error code P0500
sounds like a transmission issue could need a transmission fluid flush then you should be fine the first indicator that your transmission is going bad is the first gear and reverse but since its overdrive probably just a tranny fluid issue hope that helps
Towing car behind rv motorhome
Should be okay if you use a tow dolly. This means you drive the front wheels up on the tow dolly and strap the tires down. The rear wheels are like trailer tires and should roll as if they do when driven.
P0340 sensor location
This part is located on top of the engine on the drivers side about midway from either head. The problem with this repair is the lack of a timing mark. The part may have sheared off its veins in the mating housing and a second part may be bad. The #1 cylinder plug at the back of the engine will need to be removed and the engine will need to be hand adjusted to top-dead center on the compression stroke. When this is done, the new parts need to be aligned. You really need a Service Manual to get all of this right. Lots depends on what happened to make the sensor fail. It can be simple if no parts are sheared off.I can not say what the parts cost, they are small. Some Repair shops and Dealers want full price, other shops may allow you to buy parts cheaper and bring them in. Browse the Web and see what they look like.
I got a 97 sable. the windows work some time, the
Really depends on what was done. The windows, gas gauge, air bag and such are not connected to the computer.Sounds like a Relay is staying on when the key is shut off. You need to do "Power Off" testing with an Ohmmeter to see what is still turned on when the car is at rest.Only a few circuits are on when the car is not. The Security system, radio clock, and Remote brain are left on with the key off. Other than those, nothing should be grounded ( meaning the positive and negative charges stay separate). You could even have a bad ignition switch which may not really turn off.
