1986 Honda Prelude - Page 3 Questions & Answers
My idle needs to be turned down on my 1986 honda
Look for a hole about 11mm diameter on the throttle body with a brass colored, slotted plug in it. Turning the plug/screw clockwise with a flat tipped screwdriver should turn down the idle speed.
Hi driving along then a miss and engine light
You need to read the code, if the engine light comes on. It goes off because the problem is intermittent, but it is still stored in the computer, unless it doesn't happen for a long time. Sounds like the code will be a cylinder misfire. If it is, change your plugs, and check your plug wires, and distributor/coil with an OHM meter if you still have problems.
What is the best way to drain a gas tank on a 86
Your answer is a long tube down the filler pipe and syphon it out into a pail. The end of the hose in the bottom of the tank must be higher than the end of the hose to the pail in the pail. To start the syphoning has someone you don't like **** on the out side end to start the flow. OR...You can buy a kit to do this with a hand operated bellowspump to start the flow. This should get most of it out. Hope that helps you. Please let me know!

How do i open a 1986 honda prelude hood?
On drivers side of car reach down by your left leg under dash and pull out the handle there. I think it's like an 84 I had and the hood opens backward of a normal hood. Good luck!
Does a diagram of the 1986 Prelude carborator and
I'm not sure where to get it, but the adjustment that most often needed to be done on them was the float level. To set that, find the sight glass on the side of the float bowl. With the engine running and the car parked on a level surface, adjust the screw on the top until the fuel level is at the top edge of the paint dot on the glass. (it's supposed to be the middle of the dot, but they run better at the top) If memory serves me, there is a nut that locks the adjustment screw.
90 Honda Prelude misses sometimes
Maybe the crank speed sensor is faulty - would confuse ECU and show wierd rev counter results. Any engine check-light (MIL) or stored error codes?
I want to start a 1986 honda prelude that has been
Yes, the cams will be bone dry, remove the camcovers and drain the old oil, pour fresh oil over the cams, refit the covers and fill with oil,it may or may not start with the old petrol so give it a try, if it wets the plugs and there is a decent spark you will have to drain the tank and use fresh fuel,
Need a picture or diagram of top dead center/86' honda prelude 2.
From what I see in my manual,
1.There is a Timing Pointer on the back of the engine. There is a White mark on the flywheel. The white mark must line up with the timing pointer, for Number 1 piston to be at Top Dead Center.
2.Facing the engine, looking at the camshaft sprocket. The sprocket has spokes. On one of those spokes is the word, "UP" in raised letters, or there is a small Dot. As you can see here, the spoke with the word UP goes -> Up.
(Same thing of course if it is a Dot, instead of UP)
On the back of the camshaft gear, (Sprocket), are marks. On the edges of the camshaft gear. These line up with the top edge of the cylinder head. The surface of the cylinder head, where the valve cover bolts down to.
I'm sorry, at present I do not have a website, that I could link you to for a diagram, or photo.
I had a bunch of steam coming off the engine and
The thermostat could be stuck closed.
The worst case is you over heated the engine to the point you could have internal damage to the engine . I would change the thermostat first. IF that does not work , I would take to a shop to have checked out.
