Security light flashes and it won't start

We replaced the headgaskets on our 1996 Legacy 2.5L 4 cylinder. After putting everything back together and double checking the timing, it will start at first and then go out after 5 seconds and then not start again until waiting 5 or more hours. the security light flashes, could this be the problem and if so, how do we disarm the security system?

located under intake in water crossover pipe, you can access the sensor by removing intake chamber box, then pcv hose connected to the block, the connector is orangeish 2pin,use a 19mmdeep socket on a 3/8 ratchet to get it loose, make sure engine is cool, also make sure there is a new brass washer with your new sensor, sometimes the old washer comes off when removing the sensor, sometimes it sticks to the pipe, some coolant will escape so make sure to top it off

Engine stalls while driving and sometimes while idling.

Does not run rough prior to stalling, but just acts as if I turned the key to off, then starts right back up again. The ck.engine light came and Autozone code # P0100 and PO115. ..Also, If A/C is not running it does not stall...at least not yet.

The stalling problem could be caused by a faulty mass airflow sensor. That is the PO100 code. The other code is for the engine coolant temperature sensor. Go to the autozone website at autozone .com and register your vehicle. It's free and you will have access to an online repair manual. The procedures for testing the MAF sensor is outlined there. Hope this helps and you find a resolution to your problem. Best wishes.

I have this same problem with my 1996 Subaru Legacy 2.2 Wagon. There is a Subaru Service Bulletin #16-62-97 dated 5/16/97 with a Subject entitled "Transfer Clutch Binding And/Or Bucking On Turns". There is also an important follow-up to it numbered 16-64-99 dated 09/15/99 entitled "Revised Transfer Clutch Assembly Replacement Procedures" that should also be used should you decide to go ahead with the transfer clutch replacement.

I just got these Service Bulletins from my mechanic who got them from a Subaru dealer.
The estimate was about $700-$1000 to fix. This is more than likely the cause of the binding problem on slow, sharp turns.

Hello,

I hope this info helps.

NOTE: This is the only information provided by the manufacturer for clearing diagnostic trouble codes.

CLEAR MEMORY
After eliminating problem as per trouble code, clear memory as follows:

Make sure ignition switch is ON (and engine off). Connect one DIAG. terminal (1) on diagnosis connector (2) terminal No.1.

where warning light is flashing, connect the other DIAG. terminal (3) on terminal No. 2 for at least three seconds . After memory is cleared, normal warning light flashing rate resumes. (Warning light flashes every 0.6 seconds (ON-OFF operation.) Memory cannot be cleared if any problem exists.

After clear memory and then DIAG. terminals (1) and (3), extract from diagnosis connector (2)
