How do i locate the knock sensor in a 1996 subaru gtb wagon engine

It is underneath the intake manifold. If you look straight down from the throttle body, you will see a sensor with one wire coming out and a bolt going through the middle of it, that is the knock sensor.

No heat, over heating

Not all new thermostats are actually working thermostats. It may require a second one. However,if the fan does not work it will be hard to tell.Is there a fan belt running to it?The goop that was added to it could actually plug up the the rad coils or rods and make it extremely hard to cool itself. It needs to be flushed.

I have a 1996 subaru

the one at the side of the throttle body pertains to the electronic choke that works when your engine is cold. it ups the idle so your engine can go to the normal operating temp faster.

your hard starting problem is caused by ignition timing. putting too much advance on your ignition will cause this issue. have some experienced mechanic check your timing. he should look at the distributor timing, camshaft timing, and crankshaft timing.

How to reset airbag light

Hello,

I hope this info helps.

NOTE: This is the only information provided by the manufacturer for clearing diagnostic trouble codes.

CLEAR MEMORY
After eliminating problem as per trouble code, clear memory as follows:

Make sure ignition switch is ON (and engine off). Connect one DIAG. terminal (1) on diagnosis connector (2) terminal No.1.

where warning light is flashing, connect the other DIAG. terminal (3) on terminal No. 2 for at least three seconds . After memory is cleared, normal warning light flashing rate resumes. (Warning light flashes every 0.6 seconds (ON-OFF operation.) Memory cannot be cleared if any problem exists.

After clear memory and then DIAG. terminals (1) and (3), extract from diagnosis connector (2)

My dash lights are not working , all the fuses are

You will need to pull the cover off of the guage assembly. There are little light bulbs inside that have probably burned out. Replace them and your dash lights should work again. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi im trying to find out the diff ratio for a 1996

4EAT This transmission was released in 1988 for use in the Subaru XT6 and Leone Touring Wagon. The bellhousing and input shaft were changed for the Subaru EJ engine, but this transmission is still in use today with only minor changes. Also, this transmission is a four speed automatic with a lock-up torque converter, not a 3 speed automatic with automatic overdrive.
  • Gear Ratios: 1st 2.785 2nd 1.545 3rd 1.000 4th 0.697 Rev 2.272
  • Usage: 1988-1991 Subaru XT, 1990-2004 Subaru Legacy, 1992-1997 Subaru Alcyone SVX, and all Subarus 1995-Present
The Ford Motor Company also uses a transmission on some Ford, Kia Motors, Mercury, and Mazda products called the F-4EAT, which shares some similarities with the Subaru, since they are both manufactured by Jatco. The Nissan Pathfinder has also used this transmission in the past with an external transfer case attached
  • Usage: 1988-1994 Subaru Justy
  • [edit] 5MT It is notable to mention that only Turbo vehicles received a hydraulic clutch until 1995. Also, in 1998 Subaru changed from a push-style clutch to a pull-style requiring minor bellhousing and fork changes.
    • Gear Ratios: 1st 3.785 2nd 1.945 3rd 1.500 4th 0.994 5th 0.780/(0.735 WRX) - Final 4.11 (3.90 WRX)
    • Usage: All 1990-2003 with EJ-Engine
MY 96 Transmission specs (and possibly other years)
    • Gear Ratios: 1st 3.545 2nd 2.111 3rd 1.448 4th 1.088 5th 0.825 (FWD) / 0.780 (AWD) / 0.871 (Outback AWD) --- Final 3.454 (FWD) / 3.900 (AWD) / 4.111 (Outback AWD)
Source: 1996 Subaru Legacy Service Manual
and one website says all autos were 4.11, a 2.2 manual was 3.90, and a 2.5 manual was 4.11

I have a good battery,my starter is a year old,

hi if your starter and battery are recently new it and you have no power at all when trying to start your car it could possibly be a dodgy wire, i would start first by checking the main power wire to your starter motor near the gearbox which attaches to the starter with a nut, either the nut could be loose or the wire burnt out, also check the earth wire in the same location let me know how you get on

    1996 subaru wont start

hi this could be a few things, providing it winds over it could be a dirty knock sensor or cam angle sensor both located at front of engine, it could also be a dodgy fuel pump not flowing fuel to injectors also another thing worth a look is the ignitor if your model is early 96 it might be stuffed and not firing the coils when its meant too, if it is not winding over at all try replacing the starter motor and checking charge in the battery
