Check the tranny oil level ,with engine stationary and cold pull dipstick for transmission and it should be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the full mark

How to install an actuator on a 1997 mercury grand marquis

I think they misunderstood you there, as there are no actuators in anything in the steering column. Guessing they half listened and only stuck on the "rolling down the window" part, and thought u had problems with the windows and said change the actuator for the window. If you mean you i think you mean by "slack in the ignition", my guess is that the release pin in the lock cylinder got jammed somehow and when turning the barrel, it unlocked and come loose from the ignition. In a nut shell you did the procedure to remove the key barrel to replace it without knowing it. :P Hope this helps and keep me posted on this so i can help you out more if this isn't the case. Or if my assumptions are wrong, just give me more precise info and i'll do my best. :)

Whistle noise near alternator

Can be the Alternator bearing or a serpentine belt pulley close by. A whistling noise can be a Vacuum leak. Sometimes when installing an Air filter, the ductwork is not reconnected perfectly. A PCV valve can sometimes make a noise. The spring tension inside the PCV valve should keep it closed until a strong Vacuum pull opens it. This would usually be masked by the other engine noises at higher RPM. About the only other thing you can do is use a water mist from a spray bottle on the engine seams as it runs. Follow vacuum lines and so on. Water will affect RPM so any openings can be detected.

WHY CAN'T I SHIFT MY 1997 GRAND MARQUIS OUT OF PARK AND INTO ANY GEAR?

You may have a faulty Break-light switch. If the switch is bad, then it will behave as if you have no breaks afa the shift-lever is concerned.

Code p0304 misfire e 320 mercdes 1997 when you

A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plug or wire Faulty coil (pack), Faulty oxygen sensor(s), Faulty fuel injector, Burned exhaust valve, Faulty catalytic converter(s), Running out of fuel, Poor compression, Defective computer. If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs/wires). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if equipped). Otherwise, check the coil packs. Sometimes the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
