I keep pretty good care

Well being well kept up I sure you are burning oil through the valve stem seals.... and new rings too... the head kit should be around 120 to 170 bucks includes every thing from the head up.... and rings should only run you 50 bucks.... If your clutch is strong I would not worry about it.... I have two accord's with over 300,000 on them.... :)

Does the 1989 honda civic sedan with a/t have a

Unfortunatly no. Can be a messy job removing the pan to change the fluid but here is a tip. Unbolt all the pan bolts except the four corners (if you get the idea) then remove two of the four corners on one side. Then slowly loosen the other two a little at a time on each bolt so as you are loosening it will kind of be like you are pouring something in a bowl in your sink if you can understand what I am saying. I hope this helps and good luck.

Car starts most time then out of the blue it

As you have confirmed the electric section must be checked or the spares changed. So start with replacement of the spark plugs, the contacts in the distributor , the capacitor, if the car has clocked more than 40 miles without any replacement.
Next check on the HT cables to the coils, from the distributor to the plugs and finally the HT coil.
make sure that the wiring to the coil is intact- the voltage to the +'ve of coil is present .

When i turn the headlights on in my 89' honda

Firstly, turning on the headlamps applies an electrical load onto the battery and charging system.
The charging system will sense the load and increase it's output to compensate..
This compensation is why the idle RPM drops.
The alternator is driven by the engine so when the alternator has to work harder, the engine has to work harder too..
Loss of break lamps usually means a blown fuse so check all the fuses.
Check the lamp switch too..
You might even find the lamp check relay has developed a fault..
But, I would suspect a fuse or switch before anything else..

Car won't start, makes a clicking noise when key

First try a jump start with the other car running. If this doesn't work, your solenoid or starter relay is probably bad. First try swapping the starter relay with another relay, such as the horn relay. If that doesn't work either, take the starter/solenoid out and have it tested at the parts store. Your starter should be accessible from the top of the car. see pictures below. I have also pasted in the wiring diagram.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. Let me know if you have any questions.

How to change the filter on the automatic

In the Civic the Transmission Filter is located inside the transmission, you must remove the bottom pan of the transmission, the filter is just below the Valve body, remove all the bolts from the pan and with a large catch pan under the pan gently pry the pan down, it is very messy as there is no drain plug, install the new filter element and then clean off all the old gasket on the transmission pan and the transmission, reinstall the pan with the bolts just finger tight, then evenly tighten the pan bolts down to about 12 foot pounds, add about 1.5 quarts of the correct ATF type fluid and run the car at idle until the transmission is hot, then top off the transmission fluid level, DO NOT OVERFILL.
