It basically means "Alert!" and will refer to the message in the display to the left in the dash. I see it when bulbs are out or the ABS sensor is alerting me etc. VIDA (software) and DiCE (hardware to plug into ODBII port) will also tell you a lot more about any errors.

It means you must go to the dealer or a reputable Volvo mechanic so they can find out which of your sensors.. either in the bumper, or dash are not reporting. Otherwise it may not deploy at the time of an emergency. Usually this light goes off in older cars that haven't been serviced in a while.

Sounds like an oxygen sensor (there are two). I had a recent problem where I had a rough idle and my S60 continued to stall out. Turned out to be the rear oxygen sensor. After replacement, car idles nicely and car drives normally.

Have you had it checked for leakage whilst off? Ask for a DC current leakage test from your battery whilst the key is removed. Leakage will result in the battery draining whilst off. If the test show a leak you will need to start/looking for electrical circuits / lights remaining on.

the CPU has shut down the engine to protect it so run fault codes to find what has happened.

its very awkward to do this as you dont get alot of space to get your hand in. I would recomend taking out the headlamp its held on by a few nuts its not hard to do and it will save you time and stress.

Have you checked the computer for actual trouble codes ?

Call any auto parts store, Give them year, make ,model and engine size. and ask how much for the PVC valve, i'm sure you will be amazed on how little they cost. Are you sure You have the right name and info?
