V40 sport 52 reg 1.8l

Hi

there is no certain way to fix this without opening the fuel tank and replacing the float, howver I have in the past tried these 2 things successfully.

1. get a can of fuel in the car and run it out of fuel completely, this often sinks the float and removes air pockets or fragments that could be sticking to it. once the car is out of fuel get under it and bang the tank just with your fist nothing heavey just enough to encourage the float to free up from the tank bottom.

2. you can buy fuel treatment while I am not sure of the sucess of this method I am told by a friend that the chemicals in the treatment clean the tank of tiny dirt particles and again can often free off the stuck float.

Hope this helps, the only other option is to lift the back seats and remove the float from the tank. downside the car will stink of fuel for a while.

Regards
Dan

Volvo V40 (1998) headlight problem. I have no

Hello,

Basically when you car starts to give faults like this, then you need to understand that a fuse might have blown so when you try to control the headlight, it might not come up. Also another cause for such problem is the alternator.

Run a check on both the fuses and the alternator, before working on any. Once you detect the problem, then you can have an easy fix. But in any case it might be out of the two, they are both easy to fix.

For Fuse, all you have to do is to open up the bonnet and reach for the fuse box and replace any blown fuse.

Take care and good luck

Typical causes of this condition are the security system and the safety interlock system If there is a security light flashing, try using another factory key or lock and unlock the driver's door with the key to disarm the system. If it isn't the security system, try starting the car in neutral or shifting thru the gears while holding the key to "start" (foot on the brake, please). If you have a manual transmission, remove the connector from the switch above the clutch pedal and connect the terminals in the connector with a big paper clip. If these techniques allow the car to start, replace the interloch switch. If neither of these are the problem, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

It sounds like you have a stone lodged in one of your wheels. They can lodge themselves between the brakes and backing plate
.Possible solution ,try reversing and slam on the brakes .This has worked for me several times. Good luck

To be able to replace the bulbs you need to remove the dashboard. Whilst this seems daunting it is easier than you think. I have done it and it will take you a couple of hours, (obviously depending how competent you are), but if you can use a screwdriver then you can do it. The screws for the dashboard are located behind the airvents,
The airvents can be carefully prised out to reveal the screws.
Unfasten all the screws and carefully lift out the dashboard.
Do not force anything, if it doesn't move then you have not undone all the screws.
The dashboard is difficult to manouvre because of the steering wheel but it will move enough to give you access to work behind.
Replace the bulbs and then refit everything in reverse order.
I strongly suggest obtaining a copy of a Haynes manual, this will show you the location of all the screws holding the dashboard in place.
A manual will cost you about £20, but a garage will cost you about £40 - £60 an hour to do something that you can do. Just take your time.

Volvo v40 p ref radio says code where do i get

Radio code is specific for each and every car. It is specific like anti theft code.

So you can get it by providing your VIN# and registration details in authorised dealership.Nobody else can provide you. If anybody can provide you that , then there is no meaning of security for your car..

Had timing belt replaced in 1/2010 for 2001 volvo s80.

yes,the water pump should have been changed at the same time,BUT,and i keep saying this to all my customers,no garage will do any work that you, the client, dont ask for and if they reccomend it they are trying to rip you off.the original repairperson is not at fault in any way,as you cant see inside the pump to decide when its going to fail.....not what you wanted to hear ,but true.
best advice.is find a good mech and follow him/her around, that way it becomes personal.

Here is all the tech info for removing and replacing....hope this helps you:

4-Cylinder Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Right hand engine cover
    • Cover over the right headlamp
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Front timing cover
    • Servo reservoir
  3. Position Volvo lifting beam 999 5006 or equivalent slightly in front of the front lifting eyelet for the engine. Use Volvo lifting arm 999 5383 or equivalent and Volvo lifting hook 999 5460 or equivalent to raise the front of the engine a few millimeters.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Right-hand engine mount
    • Right front wheel
  5. Turn the crankshaft until the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond. Turn the crankshaft a further 1/4 turn clockwise and then back again until the markings correspond. The markings are illustrated. Remove the upper timing cover.
  6. Slacken off the center screw for the belt tensioner slightly.
  7. Turn the tensioner clockwise to 10 o'clock.
  8. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Air baffles
    • Lower belt cover
    • Timing belt

To install:
  1. Turn all the pulleys listening for bearing noise. Check to see that the contact surfaces are clean and smooth. If the tensioner pulley lever or idler is seized, replace it.
  2. If replacing with a new idler pulley, tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  3. If replacing tension pulley, screw into place using the center bolt by hand. Ensure that the tensioner fork is centered over the cylinder block rib. Ensure that the Allen hole on the eccentric is at "10 o'clock".
  4. Install the timing belt in the following order:
    1. Around the crankshaft sprocket
    2. Around the idler pulley
    3. Around the camshaft sprockets
    4. Around the water pump
    5. Onto the belt tensioner
  5. Carefully turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing belt is tensioned. The belt must be tensioned between the intake camshaft pulley, the idler pulley and the crankshaft
  6. Hold the belt tensioner center screw secure. Turn the belt tensioner eccentric counter-clockwise until the tensioner indicator passes the marked position.
  7. Then turn the eccentric back so that the indicator reaches the marked position in the center of the window and tighten the center bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  8. Press the belt to check that the indicator on the tensioner moves easily.
  9. Install or connect the following:
    • Lower belt guard
    • Air baffles
    • Upper timing cover
  10. Turn the crankshaft two turns. Check that the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond.
NOTE Check that the indicator on the belt tensioner is within the marked area.

  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Lower timing cover
    • Front timing cover and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Engine mount and tighten to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm)
    • Servo reservoir. Tighten bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    • Front wheel
    • Right hand engine cover
    • Cover over the right headlamp
    • Negative battery cable
