You need to stop by any good parts store or shop and have an OBII scan (fault scan) done. Most will do it free. They will pull stored codes which will identify what problem is.

position 1 is first click of ignition switch from off position

might need to bleed heating system / radiator. Air lock could stop flow of hot water. Check water colour in radiator - if brown and gungy there could be a build up of sludge so radiator flush required.
when dial / lever moved to turn heat on / off see if you can hear anything moving - there should be! Quite often when heater turned on or off small solid wires move valves that are visible under dash and on engine bay firewall. Watch these rods when someone is turning the heater from cold to hot and see if anything is sticking or loose

If the car is an automatic, there is a good chance that there is a problem with the gearbox. They go into a "get you home" mode when a problem is detected which would explain the suspected third gear. Don't panic and think that this will cost you a fortune to fix, often it is only a loose/wet connection on a sensor and that's enough to set - off the protection system. As the car was working fine, I would be pretty confident that this would be the case. Best solution would be to get it to an auto electrician and get it diagnosed (they can plug it in and find the exact part that's causing the problem).

there is no certain way to fix this without opening the fuel tank and replacing the float, howver I have in the past tried these 2 things successfully.

1. get a can of fuel in the car and run it out of fuel completely, this often sinks the float and removes air pockets or fragments that could be sticking to it. once the car is out of fuel get under it and bang the tank just with your fist nothing heavey just enough to encourage the float to free up from the tank bottom.

2. you can buy fuel treatment while I am not sure of the sucess of this method I am told by a friend that the chemicals in the treatment clean the tank of tiny dirt particles and again can often free off the stuck float.

Hope this helps, the only other option is to lift the back seats and remove the float from the tank. downside the car will stink of fuel for a while.

Hello,

Basically when you car starts to give faults like this, then you need to understand that a fuse might have blown so when you try to control the headlight, it might not come up. Also another cause for such problem is the alternator.

Run a check on both the fuses and the alternator, before working on any. Once you detect the problem, then you can have an easy fix. But in any case it might be out of the two, they are both easy to fix.

For Fuse, all you have to do is to open up the bonnet and reach for the fuse box and replace any blown fuse.

Typical causes of this condition are the security system and the safety interlock system If there is a security light flashing, try using another factory key or lock and unlock the driver's door with the key to disarm the system. If it isn't the security system, try starting the car in neutral or shifting thru the gears while holding the key to "start" (foot on the brake, please). If you have a manual transmission, remove the connector from the switch above the clutch pedal and connect the terminals in the connector with a big paper clip. pic is "imobilised " icon,looks like the key sync or zapper need re program ,thats what it says in book but i bought mine with same light on (and its still on) and mine runs fine?

hi, it may not be the switch. there are 2 systems a battery for hazards and ignition for indicators both relies on each other. i do'nt know if you have seperated units for both. but this could be an EARTH problem too. gerry

It sounds like you have a stone lodged in one of your wheels.They can lodge themselves between the brakes and backing plate
.Possible solution ,try reversing and slam on the brakes .This has worked for me several times. Good luck
