Try disconnecting the ignition switch - if the power goes off the trouble is a worn or faulty switch or steering lock. If the power doesn't go off it is either a stuck relay or shorted wiring.

Junk it? No, let me know and I'll buy it. :D Check the cap, rotor and plug wires - and if you haven't replaced them in the last few years, do so. Make SURE you use Bougicord plug wires. Everything else is going to cause problems.

just above the oil filter around an inch away from the fillter housing. one single wire feed think is either a 10mm or 12mm spanner needed to remove it.

The relay is located next to the left the of fuse box under the steering column. It is approximately 30x30x40 3 pin relay. Mr B

Good start, but be sure to double check the firing order? Looks like long plug wires? Also, did you replace the rotor in the distributor? Could also be a hair-line crack in distributor cap...be sure to add 2 bottles of liquid Heet to remove water from the tank...Hope this helps.

Possibly a bad fuse which is not allowing the power from your new alternator to make it back to the battery. Do you have alternator voltage making it to the battery when running?
