Changed main fuel pump and
this sounds like an intank low pressure pickup pump problem, the intank pump failing causes the symptoms you have, that being a lean condition, the larger rail pump has no real suction, it needs about 10 pounds of pressure on it to pump correctly, that is the job of the pick up pump in the fuel tank, so replace it.
Where is the fan sensor
The thermal switch is located on the top of the radiator, usually on the passenger side.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain and recycle the engine coolant down below level of switch mouting location.
Unplug the electrical connector from the switch.
Using a socket or wrench, loosen the switch,remove the switch by hand
Install the switch into the radiator, and start the threads by hand.
Tighten the switch into the radiator, do not to overtighten or you will break the switch or radiator.
Plug the electrical connector in.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Refill the coolant and start the engine.
Let the vehicle warm up and check the operation of the fan switch.
Check the level of the coolant.

Is the thermal switch the
The thermo switch acts LIKE a thermostat in a way. It is sensitive to heat, and will open and close with temperature. The Fan switch (Thermo switch), will cause the electrical circuit to connect and disconnect at certain radiator temps to activate the cooling fan,thus cooling the engine coolant/antifreeze that runs through the radiator, then back into the engine. The thermostat is an engine component that reacts to heat also, but has no electrical wires running to or from it, the internal engine heat is what causes it to open and close.
I need to change the timing belt on my 93 940
This is definitely not ajob for the beginner. The cams will need to be locked down with a special tool. If they move at all, your timing will be way out and you will have some serious trouble on your hands. Either take it to a dealer or a shop that works on Volvo. Most shops will turn down a timing belt job on a Volvo. When replacing the timing belt, you also need to replace the water pump, front crank seal, both cam seals, and im not 100% sure but I think the 940 has a balance shaft belt that will need to be replaced. I may be wrong about the balance shaft belt. The total cost of this job will be from 800.00 to 950.00 depending on the shop

hi, the first thing you should go and do is go to a filling station or car spares shop and go and buy a fuel line cleaner, these come as a fuel additive that you pour into the fuel tank.
A good one to buy is called Red X just make sure you buy correct type ie petrol or diesel and then pour this into your tank you then need to give the car a good run for between 30 min and an hour this will then ensure the product has gone around the whole fuel line system and this then cleans all the fuel lines out and injectors, after doing this you should find your car will run a lot better and you will have better fuel consumption.
If after doing that you still have problems then you need to start looking at things like changing the spark plugs as this can cause the problem you are having.

940 volvo has slight hesitation
yes correct.its one of the underlying problem.and gets corrected. check out the crankshaft sensor and spark plugs.also the coil pack at spark plugs.if the problem occurs again.

Trying to find hand brake ajustment
remove panel at back of centre console you will see adjusterjcheck first if hand brake shoes can be adjusted in drum like on the 850 with wheel off and torch revolve disc if there is a an adjuster use this before adjusting cable
Brake lights won't come on changed switch and
Remove the brakelight bulb holder, If you pop out the entire assembly it will save your knucles some skin. Then you want to take some fine sandpaper and clean the contacts "on the housing" well, and coat the with a thin film of dielctric grease or vaseline. I'm sure this will resolve your problem. I've had to do this to numerous Volvo vehicles over the years. Also once you're finished, the dash indicator may "not" go out unless you purchase the bulbs from Hella because of their candlepower exclusivity.

you have to spin the pump a little and work around pay attention to how it comes out my first one i got excited and couldnt get it back in but i lowered the tank a little and it was easier
1995 volvo 940 power driver's
1. Try to center the seat, allowing the side that does move to get in the middle of the movement.
2. Then raise the seat has high as it will go to make clearance for your hand to go under there and push on the cables.
3. On the side that does not move, try pushing in on the cables 1 by 1 until you find the one that is not working.
4. I used a piece of speed tape to keep pressure on the cable so it will work from now on. But I have learned (from an 850 seat back recliner post) that you can get a small butane torch and heat the end of the cable and push it in a little. This will re-engage the cable in the transmission to allow it to work properly.
Error code
If it is a burnt cd then your cd player is having problems reading it. Probably didnt finalize good if burnt or its a cheap brand of cd. I always get an error with memorex cds
