1991 Volvo 940 - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Need to remove crank sensor on 1991 940 (2 litre)
Had you had the car scanned? It could be something else? Fuel pump, relay, fuse...
Is there any spark at the plugs? Is there fuel coming to the injectors?
There are a few things that can cause a car not to start, Is the engine light on?
Best way is to get the car scannd, if not you'll end up replacing unneccesary parts by trial and error.
Cheers
I have a volvo 940
Sounds as if you have set the immobiliser, does your car have the volvo guard alarm system fitted, (is the red light on the window frame?) I found that when reconnecting the battery if you just tap the connector on the terminal 4-5 times before connecting it it would reset the immobiliser and the car will start
Heavy feul use and black smoke
It could be a lot of things, but (in general, not specific to this car) it sounds like a 'turbo' problem/turbo air leak. Can you also hear a high pitched whining sound, or something sounding like an high pressured air escaping? Check under the hood for hoses that may have worn through or become disconnected because of busted O-clamps.
1995 940 wagon...stalls...ideas/help...please?
Could be several things; MAF ( Mass air Flow) sensor, (Yes you should have one), could be fuel pump on the rail or the filter next to it, could be electronic idle controler, clogged injectors, ect ect, a Volvo dealer can do some simple checks of the actual components and tell you, but have someone else fix it!
Turbo problems...
These sound like the classic Ethanol problems I was getting, keep using it in that model and it'll start stalling too!! For some reason the ethanol doesn't go well with our o2 sensor, cakes it with carbon from the alcohol, I poured a bottle of octane booster and filled up with non-ethanol and haven't had the problem since
Fuel supply module
Check fuses for fuel pumps, and the crank angle sensor on the back of the motor. Also check fuel pressure to make sure you are getting any fuel at all.
Also check fuel pump relay (white one in back of the fuse panel behind the cig ash tray). They last abaout 10 years and then they quit.
Volvo 940 turbo
Check the fuel pump relay (white inside and back of fuse area behind the cig ashtray). They get old and quit.
Second, check frayed wires on the crank angle sender - they could be grounding out on the rear of the engine.
Perform a check on the ECT switch (toward rear of head under the intake manifold (hidden over the oil trap). It's a nuckel buster to remove, and ou don't want to break it.
Also check spark plugs for wear and gap. Check coil wire, and plug wires for jumping spark.
940 1991 volvo estate
Your problem is fuel gauge is hanging up on the fuel pump. The slide bar/fuel sender is located inside the fuel tank alongside the fuel pump. Today I removed my fuel tank and replaced the pick up strainer on my fuel pump and previously my fuel gauge didn't work, but all I needed to do was slightly bend the slide mechanism and my fuel reading read correctly on my gauge. Previous to that I showed no reading on the dash meter.
Central locking
first look in the owners man.and follow those steps for reset. if that doesnt work you may have to have a reprograme done at the dealer or an alarm/radio shop

Heater control knob not working
If you can pull the knob off the heat and look inside to see if the knob is broken out. if not you may have a broken switch.
