Whining noise on Volvo 240 when in neural and park

A common cause of a whining or buzzing type noise when not in gear (neutral and park) is a WORN PUMP in the transmission. How many miles are on the car?? A noisy pump is just noisy and won't cause a breakdown until it becomes MUCH louder. If the noise is not that loud at this point, just keep driving it for now, and chalk it up to normal wear & tear. But DOOO make sure your transmission fluid is topped off. The amount of fluid between the LOW and FULL marks is about one pint. DON'T overfill OR allow it to get below the LOW mark. Transmissions are VERY fluid-level-sensitive.

Engine very hard to start when its foggy and it rains

$5 it's bad spark plug wires. Some dark evening, pop open the hood and with a fine mist water squirt bottle and mist the spark plug wires - if you see any arcing they need to be replaced. It may also just be time for a tune-up. High humidity conditions tend to exacerbate problems with weak ignition.

How do I replace a 1988 Volvo 240 brake light switch

It is mounted right next to the Brake Pedal. All you have to do is locate the switch that is activated by depressing the pedal about half way up the Pedal arm. After locating the switch follow the wires to the plug in the wiring harness and disconnect the wires. Then unbolt or unclip the switch and replace in opposite order.

88 volvo 240 dl won't shift into 4th

This is common to the AW70 transmission when the rear bushing has been left very worn for a period of time. The rear shaft wear heavily on the main transmission housing causing the pressure not to build enough to engage the overdrive gear.

Volvo 240 reverse lights don't work

Hi Sir

Checked the switch and plug? here's how :)

Yes it is the reverse light switch which is hooked up to your gearbox which needs to be replaced. Also it could be the plug going into this switch is a bit dirty or thorn (due to engine temperature and time wear) which in that case means that it needs to be fixed before replacing the switch.

Checking its actually the swtich so you don't buy it for nothing :)

Just to make sure that the circuitry is ok. Go to the gearbox (if it is front wheel drive transverse engine you wont need to go underneath) check where the gearbox and linkages are close to the revers there should be a switch n plug hooked up to it. Unplug it put in a piece of wire to short circuit both wires. Then turn the ignnition key on and if your circuitry is fine the lights should go on :) This means that its the switch for sure :) I hope that this helped your problem :)
