Does it crank but not fire? I would do the cheap things first - ohm out the plug wires, check the plugs, then the cap/rotor. The fuel pump relay (the one behind the glove box) is known to go bad - I removed mine and reflowed the solder joints and mine never failed again - or you can replace that. If your car is dead, check the negative cable to the battery that it's not corroded on either end.

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.Good luckIngo

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. There is an access panel in the floor of the car to get to the pump.

Red is for constant power, yellow is for ignition power, blue is for an electric antenna, black is ground. The others are for the speakers. - 2blue, 2green, 2purples, 2whites. If you don't have an electric antenna , don't use the wire. Also if you extra wires for the vehicle this is common. don't use them. Hope this helps. Randy

Your CV (constant velocity) joints are failing. Don't wait too long to fix this - if they break you stop. And it can potentially cause a lot more damage when it does break. Talk to your local mechanic - they can fix this for 1/2 what the dealer wants for this job.

The 1987 has just the step relay that is located right behind the battery on the left inner fender

Buy a Haynes repair manual at an auto parts store this manual will contain the fuse categories and locations.

Check the main lead from the alternator back to the battery especially at the battery terminal where it may be corroded off. While the alternator may be good if there is a failed diode in the rectifier in the back of the alternator it will not charge as it will be producing ac current and you need dc to charge the battery.

This condition can be the thermostat or a leak in the system that causes air to enter. I suggest a T-stat and a new radiator cap as both can cause this.

My guess is the seat belt warning buzzer.
