1984 Volvo 240 DL Wagon not Starting and dying
In my 86 volvo this is where a relay was under the glove box area i believe it was the fuel pump relay. In my vehicle i washed the car and found it did not start afterwards after many hours of troubleshooting i found this relay was full of water causing my problem, they hang it upside down so water can enter easily, i took mine apart and cleaned the contacts with sandpaper, worked fine afterwards.
1984 volvo 240 gl wagon engine failure
The clicking you hear is probably the fuel relay. You should pull it and have it tested. If you have time to wait for delivery, order a new one if the old one is bad from IPDUSA.com. They are much cheaper than the dealer, even with shipping charges. Or, go to to a pick and pull yard and find one that will work. To get to the fuel relay, pull the glove box and follow the noise.

I don't know how handy you are, but check plug condition, distributor condition and plug wires. Is it running smoothly when it does run or is it running rough at all speeds. Check the fuel filters - probably due for a change anyway.
Could need a throttle body cleaning, air mass meter, various other expensive items. So don't guess, but get a good diagnosis from someone who knows these cars.
Also, check battery cables for tightness, check the ground cable at the block for tightness, check the injection system fuse located on the driver's side front fender. Could have moisture in it that causes injectors to act up. Pull the fuse, look for wetness. If any shows, put electrical lube on the fuse tabs and then reinsert the fuse.

I think that IPD sells the wiring harness for the rear door.
Or you can try what I did. On mine, I removed the inner door cover and soldered extensions in to the wires down in the door, and then pulled fresh wire up out of the door, through the hinge, and soldered the plugs on to the end of the fresh wire up under the headliner. Over the 19 years that I owned the car, I had to do this repair twice.
To drop the headliner to access the electrical plugs, just grip the edge of the headliner and pull it toward you to unhook it. Make sure your fingers are clean or you will smudge it!
Make sure the ground wire in the hinge is repaired as well.
A buddy is handy when you are bolting and unbolting the hinges. Use a sealant under the hinge so you don't get a leak.

If the spark plugs are next to each otherthen its possible you have a headgaskey issue.
You will need to check compression if this is the case.
If you have no spark on the two wires then your looking at an ignition module problem or if you have a distributor cap it could be bad.
If you have spark and good compression then your looking at a fuel issue. Possibly a bad PCM or wiring, or injectors
You didnt state the year so i'm assuming this is fuel injected.
