2004 Mercury Mountaineer - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Car got jumped and now wont start
If the vehicle was dead and then required the jump, make sure it runs for about 15 minutes. This ensures the alternator has ample time to recharge the battery. If after this time frame the vehicle won't start again, then either the battery isn't holding a charge, or the alternator isn't charging the battery like it's suppose to. More than likely it's the battery that is the issue. Make sure the connections to the battery are cleaned before making this diagnosis.
What does the fuse look like for 2004 mercury mountaineer
Sounds like you need more help than just knowing the shape. Go online and look up fuses at a autoparts store.
You need to know where the fuse is, and what size is proper. Replace with identical factory Rated size. Not bigger or smaller.
What you would do is inspect the part that does not work to find out why it broke the fuse. Only rarely would there not be a reason.
Rear bearing hub
a lot more than you may be able to do.. take to a shop and let them fix.. save the headache
Timing chain
If you have a double overhead cam V-8, there were recalls on this design. Rather than the timing chain, a part called a "Cam Phaser" is usually the problem. I would read articles about the Phaser and see the solutions. Even the shortcut is an expensive fix with the long method costing well over $2000.
Won't go forward
Sounds like either electrical problem or mechanical (something broke) - best bet is the dealer service dept.
My "check charging system" keeps
first thing you should check is the battery. to do this you should buy a multimeter from a parts house and set it on volts. with car off check charge of battery. it should read 12 volts. start car and retouch red probe to positive and black probe to negitive. it should read 13 to 14 volts. if it still
reads 12 or anything below 13 volts you need to replace alternator. also check wires from alternator to see if any are loose.
Our car was running fine
If the engine doesn't turn when you try to start it. try starting it in neutral. if it starts then the neutral safety switch is bad. Usually they are located under the shift cable on the transmission. under the hood, drivers side. Not hard to replace. If it still doesn't turn the engine this is still what I would look at replacing first. If it is the security then when you turn the key on the light will not go out after about 3 seconds it will start blinking. Also you can make sure every door is locked and unlock the drivers door with the key. Some times this will reset the security.
6 disc cd changer jammed
personally I used another not so valuable CD to push the jammed CD back, it appears the ejected CD may bump the open exit gate and get stalled. It has happened several times. Good luck
Heater on 1997 mercury moutaineer went out
Try changing the thermostat , make sure radiator is full and remember that if using 100% anti freeze in some vehicles will not allow for high enough temps for heater to work .
