There should be a small master cylinder for the clutch right next to the brake master cylinder, mounted more towards the fender. Remove the top cover and look inside. Regular brake fluid is used in the clutch system. If it's low, likely you have a leak so check where the rod goes through the firewall under the dash, the line itself and the slave cylinder (some are outside the bellhousing, others are inside and fluid will leak from the bottom of it.

Using a test light check the current going to the horn, and try to ground it out to see if it works that way. If it does, then the horn is ok, but the switch in the steering wheel may not be grounding out.

Did you check your battery cables? If they are loose or corroded you may not be getting a good connection, and of course it takes less power to start a car on a warm day than a cold one.

on level ground, remove the screw in plug on the drivers side of the unit (about half way up from bottom) Level should be right at the bottom of the opening.

if I remember correctly, the speed sensor plugs into the trans and there were some concerns with the gear in the trans

simple test, with the engine running, have someone watch your speedometer while you hold the sensor in your hand, plugged in and spin the gear. If the speedometer works then suspect the trans gear

if the clutch is draging it will be hard to get your gears and they will chrunch going into gear but its most likly to be a gear box problem could be just low on oil or worse it may be the bulk rings and bearings worn out after all its now nearly 20 years old!

1. Fill master cylinder reservoir with DOT 3 brake fluid. Raise and support vehicle. Attach bleeder hose to bleeder screw on bleed line of slave cylinder. See Fig. 1 (attached in link) . Place other end of hose in glass container 1/2 full of brake fluid. Loosen bleeder screw while holding bleeder screw fitting.

2. Have an assistant depress clutch pedal to the floor. Tighten bleeder screw and release clutch pedal. Repeat bleeding procedure until fluid entering container is free of bubbles. DO NOT allow reservoir to run out of fluid during bleeding. Refill clutch master cylinder reservoir.

CAUTION: DO NOT allow bleed line to bend or flex when loosening
bleeder screw.

leaky slave or master cylinder - if you have someone listen to the slave cylinder while you press the pedal is should "squelch" if there is air in there, if the slave cylinder doesn't make a squelching sound then the master cylinder or a hydraulic line between the two cylinders is leaking - slave cylinder isn't very expensive but the master cylinder can be rather pricey. and any good parts shop or motor-factor can source or make-up a new hydraulic line if it is the line itself that is leaking.

Disconnect the battery, unbolt the alternator, remove the wires and write down or draw yourself a picture so you can put them back where you got them. Some need to be twisted and turned a bit to get them out. Replacing is the reverse of removal. It sometimes helps to partially un-bolt the brackets from the engine so you have a bit of room to get it back in.
My rule: If it's in your way, remove it (that can often save hours of extra work)

hello, you might have to replace ign switch, some jeeps have a safety netrual switch, i believe some even has switches on the clutch pedal, i am not a hundred percent sure, just throwing some suggestions out to you, also check battery, i believe these jeeps has manual fuel pump, wont work untill you turn motor over, have coil checked, this is where your fire starts from, besides the battery, check all fuses under dash, and under the hood,

As the 4 cyl is pretty much a 4.0 6cyl with one end cut off, bolt up should be the same, especially if you are using the transfer case with it.... if it's a stick, it may have a lower first gear, if automatic it may have less clutches in the drums. To verify match-up, check with a local scrapyard..they know interchanges better than anyone...that's their business. Different years may have different electronics.

check your coil, plugs, wires, basically your entire ignition system - test a plug wire by sticking a new (known to spark) sparkplug onto the end of the (known to work) wire and see if there is spark, if not, change out your coil and test again - if neither, check the timing of your distributor
