front end uses vacuum actuater
and transfer uses a electric motor
front driveshaft shouldnt turn when in park and front wheels off the ground

I hope help you with this. Good luck (remember rated this help).

1990 jeep yj 2.5L engine blows oil from under oil filler cap. when I remove the cap while engine is running it lets air out.appears to be building back pressure. replaced pcv no help. big oily mess under hood. engine does not smoke the usual blue smoke if rings were bad also dosen,t smoke when cranked after sitting over nite.
I had the same problem. I changed the pcv valve and checked the hose. It still did the same thing. Then I checked the metal tubing that the hose connects to and found it was full of hardened gunk. I sprayed PB Blaster into the tube let it soak for awhile. Then took an old choke cable, put it on a drill and ran it into the tube like a drain snake. It took a while of doing this over and over but eventually got it cleared out. Now, no more oil all over the engine and hood compartment.

1990 6 cyc., 4 spd, carburated. Jeep won't start. Getting no ignition spark from plugs, distributer, or coil. Replaced coil and checked all fuses. Verified 12 volts available to coil have a good ground as well. Suspect Ignition Module but don't know how to verify or test. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
It would be great if you could find the Ignition Control Module!!! From my experience on my Jeep...90 YJ 4.2 liter carb. it does not have one...Computer controlled only...

1990 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L Idles Rough/Black Smoke / Rich Fuel Odor Background: I completed a clutch job last month and this is when all my problems started. I thought I might have messed up the CPS, so I replaced with new, nothing changed. After reading FixYa issues/solutions, I ordered a TPS/IAC/MAP/O2 sensor. I replaced the O2 sensor, IAC and MAP and discovered the PCV hose was cracked. Replaced the hose and engine performance returned to normal (no more high/low idle surge). Additionally I conducted a tune-up. The following is still happening: 1-Starting cold, engine will turn over to 3000 rpms and backdown gradually to 1000. 2-Will not start when hot. Have to wait. 3-Rough Idle 4-Black Smoke Questions: 1- Do I need to change my oil? Could fuel have mixed with oil? 2- Does the injector normally tick? My last options are to change out the TPS, Fuel Injector, Fuel Filter, Fuel Pump. Any thoughts??
You could pay a garage to diagnose the problem cheaper than throwing more parts at it.
The problems may be connected or they may be different issues.
Yes I would change the oil and filter, but first I would make sure the fuel system is not dumping too much fuel into the cylinders.
The O2 sensor helps the computer decide on how much fuel the engine needs, along with the other sensors. And you said you have already replaced the O2 sensor.
A mechanic would take a scanner and "read" the sensors and look for something out of normal range.
The fuel pump and fuel filter are off the list as far as causing a rich mixture goes.
I would start with the rich mixture and then see if fixing that issue takes care of the no start when hot issue.
Change the oil and filter first, and see if the injector is on too much.
You can watch the spray and tell - at idle it should be very light.
Also look at the engine temp - is it warming up to normal 195 degrees? Can you tell if the fuel pressure regulator is blown and pouring fuel into the throttle body ?
Without a scanner its going to be more difficult, but not impossible to diagnose.
Let me know what you find out.

On a 1990 Wrangler with a 4.2 liter, what is supposed to be disconnected before the timing is set? I know about the vacuum advance on the distributor, are the 3 vacuum valves on the rear of the valve cover also supposed to be disconnected? What should it be set at for 9,000 feet?
4.2L 6-Cylinder
1. Set parking brake. Shift automatic transmission to Park or manual transmission to Neutral. With A/C off, start engine and attain normal operating temperature.
2. With ignition OFF, connect an ignition timing light and a calibrated, expanded-scale tachometer.
3. Disconnect 4 " and 10 " Hg (CEC System) vacuum switch assembly wire connector (located at top of valve cover). Disconnect and plug distributor vacuum advance hose.
4. Start engine, increase engine speed to 1600 RPM and check ignition timing. Adjust timing to specification listed on Emission Control Information label (if necessary). Tighten distributor hold-down clamp and recheck ignition timing.
5. Turn engine off and remove timing light and tachometer. Connect No. 1 spark plug lead, if disconnected. Unplug and connect distributor vacuum advance hose. Connect vacuum switch assembly wire connector.
NOTE: If timing light has an adjustable advance control feature, turn control to OFF position.
Timing is set per the emissions tag under hood.

i tested it with a noid light, it dosent light up while cranking. it has fire, fuel pump is working, fuel filter is new and in the right flow direction. is there a relay or fuse for the fuel injection?
1990 jeep wrangler yj 2.5l 4cyl throttle body injection
Check the pickup in the distributor as this is the cam sensor. The injectors run of the pulses created while the rotor is turning around. It should be a plastic disk located under the rotor button.

1990 Wrangler yj 5 speed manual transmission - after long rides or 80 degree + day i can smell hot gear oil from the tranny - there are no leaks or smoke. just the smell of heated oil. The Jeep drives 100%.
I have the original clutch 216,000 miles and only use the clutch to start from stops - the rest of the time i shift clutchless.
What could cause this ?
The clutchless shifting doesn't help your cause any. Has the fluid been changed yet? Start with fresh fluid and go from there.

How do you adjust the caster, camber, and toe on a 1990 jeep yj wrangler ?
caster is adjusted at the rear of the lower control arms. Camber is fixed and cannot be adjusted by normal means (though special off-set ball joints are available to do that) Toe in is adjusted by turning the sleeves in or out on the tie rod ends. None of this should be done at home though crude adjustments can be made in order to get the front end reasonably straight. Adjustments are made on an alignment machine that allows precise adjustments to all you mentioned as well as front/rear tracking.
