error codes 442 and 456 on 2003 Chrysler Town and Country

I'm getting error codes 442 and 456 on my 2003 Chrysler Town and Country. I can see no bad hose connections or cracks in the EVAP system. I've heard that the gas cap can be a problem.

Ideas?

Could be the gas cap.  Do you fill the tank with the engine running?
Otherwise, check the hoses near the Evap canister.  I have 2003 T&C and had the small leak and large leak codes.  I looked at the evap cansiter and the hose coming from the fuel tank vapor line had a huge crack in it, to the point it had fallen off the evap caniser.  I trimmed the end of the hose and reconnected and voila, no codes.
The evap canister is on the driver's side of the van, underneath, slightly behind the drivers seat.
BTW, to clear the codes without an OBDII reader, remove the negative cable for 5-10 minutes (15 to be safe).  The computer resets and clears the codes, except for one that it sets saying loss of power to the memory.

2003 Chrysler Town and Country speedometer and tachometer malfunction

I momentarily shorted the battery out while changing the battery. There was a spark. Now the speedometer and tachometer does not work. I see on the wire diagram that these two instruments are driven by the PCI Bus. Also, where is the fuse panel inside the car. I can't find it. Can you help me.

According to the Haynes repair manual: "There is no fuse and relay box inside the passenger compartment.  However, there are a number of fuses, relays and circuit breakers in various locations under the dash.  The heated mirror circuits and the circuit for the lower instrument panel power outlet (in the floor console) are fused with self-resetting fuses that are only serviceable by an authorized dealer."  However, in the fusebox under the hood (a.k.a Integrated Power Module) there is a fuse RDO/IP IGN which is the fuse for the radio.  Check this fuse.  Both the radio and the Cigar Lighter are fused through the IPM.

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.

Look under dash on drivers side, for a black removable plastic panel, that covers the fuse panel. Also, depending on what fuse your looking for, there should be a fuse/relay box under hood on drivers side near strut tower. The map for the one under the hood, is usually on underside of cover.

2003 Chrysler Town and Country will not turn over.

2003 Chrysler Town and Country will not turn over. Battery at 12.5 volts with no drop in voltage when key turned to start position, but I do hear a faint click sound. All lights, windows, guages appear to be working fine.

When you turn the switch over, does the lights dim or flicker? If that's the case then the battery don't have the power it needs to turn the engine over, so it could be the cables and post need cleaning, or the solenoid for the starter is bad. The description you give with the clicking sound, gives me the thought of starter solenoid, but always do the easiest and cheapest. "clean those terminals and post first"

A lot of these Chrysler Town and Country vans had issues with the front stabilizer bar end links, usually you wont feel them move if you try to move them by hand, but they will make an awful noise clunk noise when turning or going over bumps slowly, i would suggest replacing the end links and that should take car of your clunking issue. Also the front lower control arm bushings separate as well and can cause this noise as well.... but i would replace the end links as a first step and go from there.... Hope this helps..
