Here is the generic method to purge air from the cooling system, this must be done anytime the system is drained.
o This is the generic method to purge air from the cooling system.Use a floor jack and raise the front of the car as high as possible, then fill the coolant recovery tank full and run the engine until it reaches the high end of normal zone on gauge, do not overheat the engine, then shut the engine down and run cold water over the radiator core, this will self bleed the system of air and the coolant will be pulled from the recovery tank to fill the void, repeat as necessary, never let the recovery tank run dry or more air will be pulled into the system.
Husband lost only key Fob
There is a black box with a white bar code sticker in the lower center panel (below the stero and air controls) bolts to remove are located around the bottom all the way to the back by the gas pedal...that is the security module. I suggest you get another FOB than to try to bypass,
How do you test the fuel pump for a 1997 mercury
There should be a spout on the upper fuel rail of the engine. It would look like a valve stem on a tire. There are pressure gauges available through the Tool Loaner programs at places like Autozone,Advance, or Oreilys. But if you just suspect it is not coming on, then check the Inertia switch and push on it to reactivate the circuit. It is located on the dirver's side above the kickpanel.Your inertia switch (AKA fuel shut-off switch) is located behind the left side of the dash, above the kick panel (pictured below). You have to manually flip the switch back down to reset it.
I hope this helps you.
Radiator fan will not come on
Yes, it could be either of those things. It could also be a bad engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor or broken wires or loose connections to any of these things. It could also be an ECT sensor malfunctioning due to the engine coolant being low. You need to DIAGNOSE your radiator cooling fan circuits as well as the rest of your cooling system to find out which it is.

P0400 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is vacuum controlled valve that regulates the amount of exhaust gases that re-enter the cylinders. The powertrain control module (PCM) determines how much based on engine load, temp, and other conditions. If the PCM detects that the amount of exhaust gases entering the cylinder were insufficient or non-existent, this code is set.
No symptoms will likely be noticed by the driver other than the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp). However, non visible symptoms will be increased combustion temperature and increased Nox emissions. A code P0400 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- Plugged EGR passage which restricts the flow of exhaust gasses
- Faulty EGR solenoid
- Faulty EGR solenoid wiring/harness
- Vacuum lines damaged/disconnected to the EGR valve solenoid or to the EGR valve
- Faulty EGR valve
Check it and keep us updated.
Where is the thermostat on a 1997 mercury
Find the top radiator hose and follow it to the engine.
The hose should connect to the top area of the engine to what looks like an "elbow" with two bolts on each side. This "elbow" is the thermostat housing.
When these two bolts are removed...housing can be removed and thermostat is right there.
Hope this helps...
