Well lets get this one out of the way. If you ran out of engine oil either from continued neglect to check levels (worse scenario because the car was deprived of oil gradually and engine block, cylinders will overheat and expand and possibly crack either block of aluminum engine or make cylinders unable to move in their chambers. If car lost oil suddenly and you drove 40 miles the engine MIGHT be able to withstand that lack of lubrication especially if you didn't gun engine and kept speeds down and tried using downward momentum as much as possible with tranny in neutral. Since question doesn't appear native English I'll throw out similar thoughts about the transmission. It could potentially survive an oilless state better than engine with its brand of heat but same problems occur, expansion, friction makes things gring, metal flakes, chips, can be seen in oil filer? Take off filter for whatever oil we're talking and see if its got metal? Get its computer read somewhere, lots will do for free, and it may have some info for you like temp,, what oil, which sensor triggered what warning, May need new trans clutches, plates, or engine might need reboring and minimum of new cylinder rings. Head gasket would likely need to be examined too from pressure, heat, etc.
