A 76, huh, let's see, I don't know if that had the regulator in there or not. It sounds like the alt died, but maybe not. It won't run without the alt. And will only last about 20 mins on a full battery. I would take the alt off and get it back to the store to have it checked. That would be the quickest way to tell, just because it is new doesn't mean it is good. Don't keep on killing the battery, it can only handle so many drains. Hope this helps.

Dave , I have one in my cj5. The info I got on it was that it was out of a Cadillac Fleetwood from 69-1976. I was able to get a switch from Rock auto for it.It is basicly the same as any other GM column. They were also use in other gm models in those years. Larry [email protected]

First check to see if clutch will engage. Disconnect the plug on the accumulator and place a wire across connectors. This will engage the compressor. If compressor comes on, then what will need to be done is:
first be sure that all the connections and fittings are tight.
second replace the high and low side valves.
third have the system vacuumed.
fourth and oil and freon.

You should have a good working ac.

there is a wire that goes from the starter to the ignition switch/ fuse box this wire has a fuse in it called a fuseable link if the wire is broken or bad then you got nothing to the starter through the switch replace the wire or find out if it has broken off somewhere this will fix your problem

there should be two bolts going through a bracket around the column. the bolts attach to the metal part ot the dash.

You should have 3 wires in that area. Two of them should be in a plug-in and one should have an eye at the end of it. The red wire with the eye bolts on the back on the stud. The plug-in goes in on the edge at the top. It will only go in one way. Hope this helps.

Improper Timing and carburetor adjustment are 2 causes of what they called "run on" at one time. Both very easy to adjust.

Sounds like a possible air bubble in the carb. try spraying some starter fluid in the carb. That should get it to turn.

Likely you have one burnt diode in the alternator...If so, you will have marginal charging rate when system is not loaded and below normal rate with items such as a/c, fan or headlamps on high setting. You can check this by putting a volt meter across the battery terminals and watch the voltage. With no accessories on you should read around 13-14v. With all accessories on volts should not drop below 12.9, nor should it continue do drop over several minutes. If it does, you need to either replace diodes or replace alternator.

try looking into your timing of the engine is it properly timed is you distributor good if you have passed out 160k in miles try replacing the distributor system and get the engine properly timed
if that doesnt work look at your fuel pump if it is electircal and it doesnt hum when the key is in the on pos... then replace that you should be ok from there make sure your oils and plugs are good and play close attention to you ignition plug wires good luck

its has a hole through the fender for the mast to come through and a brace at the motor housing to attach to the inner fender support. a threaded antenna bezel is needed to mount the mast to the fender

they have an external oil pump....the pump is actually what the filter is screwed on to.

try to replace the battery??
