Hi
I am looking to replace the starter on my 1999
this is a fairly easy task.
disconnect the battery cables on the batttery
remove the + cable from the starter and the ignition signal wire these bolt onto the starter
remove the 2 bolts holding the starter to the transmission
install is the reverse of the above
if you feel like saving a few $$ and the solenoid is still working.
disassemble the starter just 2-4 bolts and change the worn out contacts for the motor.
most parts stores will have them they are small copper 'L' shaped pieces and cost $5-7 total

2000 outback check engine light on all the time,
You have to hook an OBD 2 scan tool up to the data link connector and check to see what code is present. If you have a knock sensor code, you need to replace the knock sensor. If you get a P0420: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold, you will need to replace your catalytic converter. But if it is nothing important, the only way to clear a check engine light is with a scan tool. You can usually go to any aftermarket parts store and they will check and clear you codes and light for free. I hope this info helps.

This really sounds like a vacuum hose got knocked loose. The oil light is not a concern, as you are idling very slowly.... Look for loose, cracked, dislodged hoses and any intake leaks.

I have 2000 Outback Idols
did you do the basics? replace plugs, test fuel injector output? tune up? most of the time when we see miss fire codes a basic tune up takes care of the problem. check these items and check the compression and get back with me and we will see if we can get to the bottom of this problem.

I had a windshield replacement done and it appears
Hi, welcome to FixYa! My name is Shaun. My suggestion to you would be to return the car the the shop who did the work and point out your dissatisfaction. If the gaps are as large as you describe, the glass and trim probably weren't set correctly, and water could easily seep under these gaps and freeze causing the gaps to grow larger and ultimately cause leaks around the windshield, not to mention the possibilty of standing water causing the sheet metal to rust from the edges. Hope this helps. Have a good day!

2000 Outback 5MT. Oil in plug well. Also loss of
You have a couple of issues. Oil in plug well is usually a valve cover leak. The power loss - you're going to have a competent shop/tech actually visually inspect, there's too many possibilities for me to suggest without actually seeing it and I don't want you chasing "ghosts"

Heat is good on acceleration but cold at idle
Check your coolant level, if ok, replace the thermostat. If you have been losing coolant for some time, and you are not leaving it on the ground, have a reputable garage check for an internal coolant leak using a block tester.
